Photos: Tamanna Bhatia Poses For PETA To Oppose Animal Tests

Moviegoers are eagerly waiting to see her back on the silver screen with her latest film Humshakals opposite Saif Ali Khan, which will be released on 20 June, but now, Tamanna Bhatia has a new starring role. That's because she just shot a brand-new ad for her friends at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India in which she gives a thumbs-up to rabbits and two big thumbs-down to testing cosmetics on animals.

In the PETA ad, Tamanna holds a rescued bunny named Tiny next to the tag-line, "Be a Bunny's Honey: Buy Cruelty-Free Cosmetics." The stunning ad was shot by ace photographer Colston Julian. Bhatia's make-up was done by Billy Manik, her hair was done by Anupa from Placid Hairdressing & Skin and her clothes were furnished by Esha Amin.

Testing cosmetics on animals is now illegal in India under the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945, companies can still sell their cosmetics here if the testing was done elsewhere. More than 1,400 companies around the world have banned animal tests, but some still choose to subject animals to painful tests in which substances are dripped into their eyes, smeared onto their abraded skin or forced down their throats. The results are often misleading.

Talking about it, Tamanna says, "Animals go through a lot of torture while they are being tested on for cosmetics. There's material applied on their eyes, on their bodies. It can be very painful because they cannot speak or they cannot communicate, such kind of atrocities are put upon to the animals. I just hope everybody out there can be a little more considerate and have a little bit of a heart and love the animals."

Several Telugu actors have previously joined hands with PETA for its various ad campaigns. We bring you the photos of those stars. Continue to see them in the slideshow.
