Adipurush Review: Prabhas' Mythological Saga Works In Bits & Pieces But Isn't As Impressive As Assured!

Adipurush Review:
Cinematography: Karthik Palani
Editing: Apurva Motiwale Sahai & Ashish Mhatre
Music: Sanchit Balhara, Ankit Balhara, Ajay-Atul, Sachet-Parampara
Story: Based on Ramayana by Valmiki
Producers: Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Om Raut, Prasad Sutar, and Rajesh Nair.
Introduction
Prabhas' pan-Indian image was used to depict the age-old Hindu mythological drama of Lord Rama and his bravery in winning back his wife Sita Devi, by destroying Ravanasura and his kingdom Lanka. Adipurush is a modern take on the Ramayana episode which was depicted with usage of modern and enhanced technology to enthrall the viewers, especially the generation X to Z.
Story
The story begins where Raghava (Prabhas) with his wife Janaki (Kriti Sanon) and brother Lakshmana aka Seshu (Sunny Singh). When Surpanaka expresses her desire to marry Raghava, he refuses. She then resorts to hurting Janaki, which enrages Lakshmana, prompting him to cut off her nose.
Surpanaka goes back to Lankesh (Saif Ali Khan) her brother and asks him to bring Janaki to his palace, where she rightly belongs. An enticed Lankesh abducts Janaki by tricking Raghava and Seshu. What happens next and how? is to be seen on the screen.
Analysis
The movie was made on a grand scale with a whopping budget and that can be seen on the screen. However, the most important and historic elements like building the Ramasetu, Bajrang lifting the Sanjeevani mountain, etc have not been established properly, disappointing the viewers. The movie mostly looks like a hastily packed parcel and lacks emotional connection.
Director establishes Lankesh extraordinarily, and the set-up of his kingdom, arms, and elements are depicted in a futuristic fashion.
Performances
For the fans of Prabhas, the movie might be a bit of an underwhelming one for the fact that Prabhas has got nothing to entertain, given the role he portrayed. There are no expressions on his face and he looked tired in close shots, especially in the second half during the climax.
Kriti Sanon has nothing much to do and doesn't bring anything remarkable to her screen presence. The roles of Surpanaka played by Trupti as well as Mandodari, played by Sonal Chauhan don't have much to do.
Meanwhile, the director's attempt to churn out comedy from the character of Bajrang doesn't go well with the film's narration and pace.
Technical Aspects
The background score and tunes composed by the respective musicians are heart to Adipurush, without which the movie wouldn't have turned out the way it is now. The cinematography was also complimenting but the entire film is set in a dark and gloomy light, which looks like a conscious decision to cover up the flaws of VFX.
The visual effects and CGI in the first half excite the fans and film buffs to an extent but towards the second half, they become over the top and test patience, coupled with the unnecessary drag the film's second half has.
What's Good
Music
3D Experience
Impressive Introduction Of King Ravanasura
Sita Apaharan episode
Vali & Sugreeva Action Sequences
First-half
What's Not So Good
Slow Narration
Dragged Second-half
Verdict
Prabhas' Adipurush succeeds in entertaining Prabhas' fans but lacks the finesse and gripping storytelling aspect that affects it from becoming another Baahubali in terms of success.
