Agent First Weekend Box Office Report: Akhil Akkineni's Film Leaves Buyers In Utter Shock & Disappointment
Akhil Akkineni starrer Agent, a spy action drama written by Vakkantham Vamsi and directed by Surender Reddy, gathered a flop talk upon its theatrical release on April 28. The movie's openings were decent but immediately fell flat at the BO.
Agent also stars veteran Malayalam superstar Mammootty in a prominent role; Bollywood actor Dino Morea is the antagonist. The roles of Akhil and Mammootty were nicely portrayed with a weak story and vague villain characterization. The movie was unanimously billed as a flop movie.
Agent Vs Virupaksha & PS 2
Owing to the underwhelming response at the box office, Agent couldn't make much on its second day. In addition to Virupaksha, which is continuing to enthrall the viewers, Mani Ratnam's epic Ponniyin Selvan 2 also hit the screens on the same day as Agent. The movie lost the battle.
Agent's Disappointing Collection In Nizam
According to a report in 123 Telugu, Agent collected a Share value of only Rs 45 Lakh in Andhra, Nizam, and Ceeded regions put together, on the opening weekend.
Agent Producer Anil Sunkara's Bold Tweet
On May 1, the film's producer Anil Sunkara has come up with a bold tweet, taking responsibility for the film's failure. On his Twitter handle, the filmmaker wrote, "We have to take the entire blame for #Agent. Though we know its an uphill task, we thought of conquering but failed to do so as we did a blunder starting the project without a bound script & innumerable issues including covid followed. We don't want to give any excuses but learn from this costly mistake and see how we can turnaround to make sure, we will never repeat the mistakes. Our sincere apologies to all those who put trust on us. We will make it up for the losses with dedicated planning & hardwork in our future projects." (sic)
His post brings to the fore the issue of how Tollywood is keen on setting combinations and expanding the market, rather than working on good scripts that work.
