Megastar Chiranjeevi's latest action entertainer, a Telugu remake of Vedalam starring Ajith, and Bhola Shankar, hit the screens amid high expectations. Directed by Meher Ramesh, Bhola Shankar opened to negative responses and criticism from mega fans and critics alike.

Bhola Shankar which features Keerthy Suresh and Tamannaah in the two female lead roles was released worldwide on August 11. Fans of the veteran hoped for another blockbuster along the lines of Waltair Veerayya but Bhola Shankar is a total letdown.

Bhola Shankar moves to Kolkata with his adopted sister Mahalakshmi (Keerthy Suresh) for her education. However, unbeknownst to others, Shankar is also on a personal mission and is a former gangster. Who is Mahalakshmi? What happened to her family? What is Shankar's agenda? are answered on the big screen.

The movie was released to decent openings and advance booking collections. On the first day, the occupancy ratio was also above average for Bhola Shankar. However, owing to the poor feedback from the fans, the movie's box office numbers took hit a new low for an A-list actor, ever.

Along with megastar Chiranjeevi, Bhola Shankar stars Tamannaah, Keerthy Suresh, Sushanth, Tarun Arora, Murli Sharma, Sayaji Shinde, P Ravi Shankar, Brahmanandam, Shawar Ali, Vennela Kishore, Raghu Babu, Tulasi, Sreemukhi, Bithiri Sathi, Satya, Getup Srinu, Hyper Aadi, Harsha Chemudu, Rashmi Gautam, and Uttej among others in prominent roles.

The movie's story originally was written by Siva, who helmed the original Vedalam. For the Telugu version's tweaks, Adi Narayana worked on the script. The film's direction and screenplay are handled by Meher Ramesh. Ramabrahmam Sunkara and KS Rama Rao bankrolled the movie on a budget of Rs 85 Crore. The movie's cinematography and editing are handled by Dudley and Marthand K Venkatesh. Mahati Swara Sagar composed the film's entire soundtrack.
