Somebody's
loss
is
someone
else's
gain.
This
saying
is
perfect
for
any
scenario
where
one's
judgment
proves
wrong
in
making
decisions.
It
stands
applicable
to
the
film
industry
evidently.
There
are
many
blockbuster
films
as
well
as
disastrous
movies
that
are
done
by
heroes
after
giving
much
thought.
Not
all
the
time
their
decision
proves
correct.
Especially
when
it
comes
to
a
senior
actor
who
is
50
and
60
years
of
age,
romancing
young
age
heroines
and
doing
action-entertainers
or
romantic
love
stories
is
something
that
definitely
adds
to
the
cringe
content.
But
to
get
out
of
the
vicious
web
of
fandom's
parameters
and
to
own
a
character
rather
than
the
image,
is
something
not
every
actor
usually
does.
Jailer
is
a
movie
that
had
underwhelming
buzz
before
its
theatrical
trailer
was
released.
But
the
height
of
its
achievement
is
beyond
imagination
for
the
film's
team,
not
only
the
fans.
Jailer
strictly
is
Nelson's
style
and
stays
away
from
run-of-the-mill
stories,
setup,
narration,
and
formula.
It
has
no
love
track
or
format-based
songs
that
are
stuffed
into
the
proceedings
at
regular
intervals.
Rajinikanth
played
the
role
of
a
retired
Jailer;
a
doting
family
man,
and
a
grandfather.
There
are
no
extensive
action
sequences
that
require
the
veteran
to
smash
100
goons
without
having
to
bend
or
jump.
The
movie
just
flows
in
the
director's
typical
style
with
several
high
points
dotting
the
narration.
However,
in
the
end,
Jailer
emerged
as
the
most
successful
film
in
Tamil
Nadu
after
PS
1,
and
becoming
the
highest
grosser
ever
by
minting
over
Rs
650
Crore
worldwide.
Jailer
set
a
record
in
the
UAE,
Kerala,
AP
&
TS,
and
other
parts
of
the
world
along
with
Tamil
Nadu
with
its
mammoth
box
office
collection.
Speaking
at
the
success
meet,
Rajinikanth
himself
said,
"I
saw
the
movie
without
RR
and
I
assumed
it
would
become
an
average
film."
In
this
scenario,
it
is
rumoured
that
Jailer's
script
was
first
taken
to
none
other
than
megastar
Chiranjeevi,
who
couldn't
see
the
potential
of
the
film
and
its
director
Nelson.
Reportedly,
according
to
a
report
by
Sakshi,
Nelson
first
approached
Chiranjeevi
with
the
script.
Citing
the
reason
for
the
lack
of
songs
and
other
such
aspects,
Chiranjeevi
couldn't
respond
positively.
Meanwhile,
Chiranjeevi
signed
and
shot
for
his
career's
other
disaster,
Bhola
Shankar,
a
remake
of
Vedalam.
Nelson
then
approached
Rajinikanth
who
green
signaled
the
project.
Both
Jailer
and
Bhola
Shankar
were
released
one
day
apart
in
the
theatres
worldwide.
Bhola
Shankar
couldn't
sustain
at
the
box
office
in
the
opening
weekend.
The
rest
is
history.
