Popular Poet, revolutionary balladeer, former Naxalite, and activist Gaddar, who was a phenomenal part of the Telangana revolutionary movement, passed away in Hyderabad. He was 74 years old at the time of his death.

Gaddar, born Gummadi Vittal Rao was a former Naxalite who was once a bank employee. He was a member of the Communist Party of India (CPI) (Marxist-Leninist), which prompted him to join the Naxals to raise his voice against the government for the welfare of the public.

Gaddar went underground in the 1980s. He was the founding president of the cultural wing of the CPI, 'Jana Natya Mandali,' through which he wrote, composed, and performed several thought-provoking songs for the greater good of the public.

He came out from the Maoists a long time ago and was not active since 2010. In 2017, he completely detached himself from the movement. He chose to educate and enlighten the public by being among them. He also voted for the very first time during the 2018 elections.

A month ago, Gaddar even announced a political party with the name Gaddar Praja Party, through which he wanted to contest. He supported the Congress party and KA Paul's Praja Shanthi Party.

The revolutionary had a bullet stuck in his spinal cord from the time he was once tried to be killed in 1997.

Gaddar was awarded a Nandi, a State government's award for Tollywood as the Lyricist for 'Malle Theegaku Pandiri Vole' from Orey Rickshaw. He, however, turned down the award.

In 2011, he was given another Nandi Award for Best Male Playback Singer for a song in Jai Bolo Telangana.
