Superstar Rajinikanth's dark comedy-action drama Jailer hit the screens on August 10 worldwide with great enthusiasm. Written and directed by Nelson, the movie is minting money irrespective of lukewarm responses to its story.

After a very long time, superstar Rajinikanth was seen playing a role made for him, under Nelson's directorial. His portrayal of the Muthuvel Pandian, a retired Jailer of the Tihar jail, now leading a pleasant and simple family life, won the hearts of the moviegoers and his die-hard fans.

The movie set a sensational record in its pre-release business, advance booking sales and box office collections worldwide.

Jailer Story
The movie is the story of a retired Jailer Muthu, whose son, a strict ACP gets kidnapped. Muthu lives a peaceful life but when he learns that his son was murdered, he sets out to avenge his death. A flashback of Muthu unravels and there is a twist. What happens next, is to be seen on the big screen.

Upon its theatrical release, Jailer is reviewed as a decent movie with a few high moments. The movie's second half fell flat due to a lack of tight screenplay, narration, and story but the movie, however, is termed as an engaging entertainer.

On the first day, Jailer movie made a worldwide collection of Rs 72 Crore. On its second, Rajinikanth's movie is expected to make about Rs 27 Crore worldwide.

Jailer movie stars superstar Rajinikanth, Vinayakan, Ramya Krishnan, Vasanth Ravi, Tamannaah, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa Menon, Naga Babu, Kishore, Redin Kingsley, Saravanan, SunilReddy, Aranthangi Nisha, Uday Mahesh, G Marimuthhu, and Mahanadi Shankar, among others in key roles. In addition, the movie features Mohanlal, Jackie Shroff, and Shiva Rajkumar in cameos.

The movie was bankrolled by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner. The budget was Rs 200 Crore. Vijay Kartik Kannan cranked the camera, and Anirudh Ravichander composed an outstanding background score and music. R Nirmal worked as the editor of Jailer.
