Tollywood's Biggest Disasters 2023: The Tollywood industry has come up with several brilliant films in the first half of 2023 of various genres. The film buffs had a great theatrical and movie-watching experience this time since the success streak began in January with the two veterans scoring blockbuster hits.

There are as many as 13 cleanest hit films that were released in Telugu this year, with most of them achieving break-even targets, positive reviews, and critical acclaim.

However, a couple of films that were made on a whopping budget, are released amid heavy expectations all over the world on the big screens proved to be unsuccessful.

Shaakuntalam

Samantha Ruth Prabhu starrer mythological romantic drama Shaakuntalam is one of the most special movies for the actress in her entire career. She was playing only female-centric characters of late and when this opportunity was taken to her by epic filmmaker Gunasekhar, she jumped at it. The movie demanded a whopping budget owing to its story, era, etc, which is why producer Dil Raju, along with Gunasekhar spent about Rs 65 Crore. However, the premiere shows itself spread negative reviews for the film, which thus contributed to the overall loss of Rs 50 Crore to its makers.

Akhil Akkineni's Agent

The spy action thriller film which was released amid heavy expectations received severe criticism and ended up as a major flop. The movie was written by Vakkantham Vamsi and directed by Surender Reddy. The movie stars Malayalam superstar Mammootty, and Dino Morea in crucial characters. Made on a budget of Rs 65 Crore, Agent, which didn't last the first weekend at the box office made only Rs 4 Crore. For the producers of AK Entertainments and Surender 2 Cinema, a loss of more than Rs 33 Crore was realized.

Custody

Actor Naga Chaitanya's recent was a cop action thriller in Tamil and Telugu. The movie marks Chaitanya's comeback of sorts in the Tamil cinema while its director Venkat Prabhu made his directorial debut in Telugu. The movie which stars Krithi Shetty was produced by Srinivasaa Chitturi under the Srinivasaa Silver Screen banner. The movie stars Arvind Swamy, Priyamani, and R Sarathkumar. The movie's box office collection was only Rs 26.8 Crore. The movie is declared a double disaster with a loss of Rs 18 Crore.

Ramabanam

Directed by Sriwass, Ramabanam is a family entertainer starring Gopichand, Jagapathi Babu, Dimple Hyathi, and Khushbu. The movie is produced by TG Vishwa Prasad and Vivek Kuchibhotla under the People Media Factory. The movie's story was written by Bhupathi Raja. Upon its theatrical release, the movie was met with negative feedback. The movie incurred a loss of more than Rs 16 Crore.

Ravanasura

Massraja Ravi Teja's psychological action thriller film by Swamy Ra Ra fame Sudheer Varma brings to the screen a different approach to a routine revenge drama. The movie was stylishly made and is based on Vinci Da. The movie which stars Sushanth, Jayaram, Anu Emmanuel, Megha Akash, Pujita Ponnada, and Daksha Nagarkar among others is produced by Abhishek Nama and Ravi Teja jointly, on a budget of Rs 50 Crore. The movie only made Rs 21.15 Crore at the box office, incurring a loss of Rs 11 Crore.
Agent and Ramabanam are highly disastrous as the losses included non-theatrical rights business as well.
