Shaakuntalam Day 9 Box Office Collection: Samantha's Fantasy Love Story By Gunasekhar Remains An Utter Flop!
Shaakuntalam is a mythological love story written by Kalidasa with the title 'Abhignana Saakunthalam.' The epic tale from Mahabharatha was adapted for making the movie starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The film was released all over the world on April 14 in five languages. Upon its theatrical release, Samantha's portrayal of Shakuntala didn't gain adequate response as expected.
Shaakuntalam was made on a massive budget for the mythological set-up. Also, depending on Samantha's fanbase alone, the producers made a whopping investment, which didn't yield desired results.
Shaakuntalam was made for Rs 65 Crore and was released on the big screen all over the world in five languages. With a business value of Rs 18 Crore and a break-even target of Rs 19 Crore, the movie hit the screens to disastrous reviews.
By five days, Shaakuntalam could achieve a share value of only Rs 4.04 Crore. And over the next three days, the share was only limited to Rs 16 Lakh. In 8 days, Shaakuntalam earned Rs 2.50 Crore Share value from the two Telugu-speaking states. The worldwide share for eight days was about only Rs 4.20 Crore.
Shaakuntalam's total gross was Rs 8.75 Crore, and is billed as an utter flop movie. The movie is Rs 14.80 Crore behind to its break-even target.
Shaakuntalam Cast
While Samantha is portraying the character of Shakuntala, Malayalam actor Dev Mohan is cast as Dushyanta. Sachin Khedekar played Kanva Maharishi and Mohan Babu as Durvasa Maharishi. Aditi Balan and Ananya Nagalla were seen as Priyamvada and Anasuya. Prakash Raj, Gautami, Madhoo, Kabir Bedi, Jisshu Sengupta, Kabir Duhan Singh, Varshini Sounderajan, Harish Uthaman, Subbaraju, and Aadarsh Balakrishna played crucial roles. Allu Arha played an important cameo as Prince Bharatha. She made her acting debut with Shaakuntalam.

Sekhar V Joseph cranked the camera for the film. Prawin Pudi edited and Sai Madhav Burra penned the dialogues. Mani Sharma composed the film's entire background score and music. Neelima Guna produced the movie under the Gunaa Teamworks banners. Dil Raju is presenting the film under the Sri Venkateswara Creations banner.
