Shaakuntalam: Samantha Ruth Prabhu's Epic Fantasy Drama Struggles For Buyers; Only A Week Until Its Release
Samantha Ruth Prabhu's upcoming period fantasy film 'Shaakuntalam', based on the work of Kalidasa titled 'Shakuntala,' is all set to hit the screens after several postponements. The movie, which is made in a 3D format will release pan-India wise in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi, and Malayalam.
Samantha, who played the lead role in Shaakuntalam has earlier shouldered the responsibility of a female-centric film titled 'Yashoda.' The movie did well at the box office and is the first pan-India venture of the actress, in which she played the title role.
Saakuntalam is all ready to hit the screens on April 14. However, with just only a week until its release, the non-theatrical business of Shaakuntalam, which was made on a budget of Rs 80 Crore, is still waiting to be closed. According to a report on Track Tollywood, "There are no buyers for Saakuntalam even for a lesser price. Even the trailers have not helped generate any interest in the movie."
Meanwhile, Saakuntalam is a star-studded film with Samantha pulling all of them together. It stars Manchu Mohan Babu, Gautami Tadimalla, Madhoo, Ananya Nagalla, Aditi Balan, Sachin Khedekar, Jisshu Sengupta, Prakash Raj, Kabir Bedi, Harish Uthaman, Subbaraju, Aadarsh Balakrishna, and Kabir Duhan Singh among others in crucial roles. Director Gunasekhar, who is known for making larger-than-life periodic films is hitting the screens after a gap of 7 years with this movie, after Anushka Shetty's Rudramadevi.
Shaakuntalam is a production venutre of Gunaa Teamworks and Dil Raju's Sri Venkateswara Creations banner. The movie's music was composed by Mani Sharma, and Editing was taken care of by Prawin Pudi. Sekhar V Joseph cranked the camera.
