Samantha's highly anticipated pan-India release of epic fantasy drama Shaakuntalam, under the direction of maverick filmmaker Gunasekhar, is getting ready to hit the screens all over the world. The movie was released on April 14 at the theatres to a mixed response.
Shaakuntalam is based on the literary work of Kalidasa based on 'Abhignana Saakunthalam.' This is one of the epic tales of Mahabharatha. Sakunthala and Dushyantha fall in love at first sight and get married in a Gandharva-style wedding. A pregnant Sakunthala then sets off to find Dushyantha, seeking her place. What happens next is all about Saakunthalam.
Ahead of the film's theatrical release, a premiere was organized in Hyderabad. Shaakuntalam stars Dev Mohan, Sachin Khedekar, Aditi Balan, Ananya Nagalla, Mohan Babu, Prakash Raj, Gautami, Madhoo, Kabir Bedi, Jisshnu Sengupta, Kabir Duhan Singh, Allu Arha, Varshini Sounderajan, Harish Uthaman, Subbaraju, Aadarsh Balakrishna, and Yash Puri among others in crucial roles.
The film's cinematography was handled by Sekhar V Joseph, and Prawin Pudi worked as the editor. Mani Sharma composed the film's entire soundtrack and score. Shaakuntalam is produced by Neelima Guna under Gunaa Teamworks banner. Dil Raju's Sri Venkateswara Creations is presenting the movie.
