Superstar Mahesh Babu's hyped family action drama Guntur Kaaram, written and directed by epic filmmaker Trivikram Srinivas, hit the screens amid sky-high expectations on January 12 for the Sankranti festival. The movie, which spent a very long time on the sets and was constantly subjected to re-work on the script and story, ended up as one of the most underwhelming films in Mahesh Babu's career despite him shining throughout in the character of Ramana, a mass and rugged youngster.

Ramana (Mahesh Babu) lives with his father Satyam (Jayaram) after his mother Vasundhara (Ramya Krishnan) estranges him. She also bears witness to a murder committed by Satyam, sending him to jail. Meanwhile, Ramana is summoned by his maternal grandfather Venkata Swamy (Prakash Raj) to sign documents that deny any property rights. He demands to see his mother Vasundhara, who is now re-married. Guntur Kaaram surpassed the Rs 100 Crore mark at the Indian box office recently on its sixth day, and the movie is making low figures despite decreased patronage. There have been allegations against the film's producer Naga Vamsi for propagating inflated numbers in terms of collections for the Mahesh Babu-starrer, by an entertainment website.
