Kalki 2898 AD: Route Clear For Prabhas' Sci-Fi Film In Andhra Pradesh; Makers & Buyers Worry About Telangana

Kalki 2898 AD Producers Worry About Telangana Recovery: Written and directed by Nag Ashwin, this epic and costliest film is making the right noise ahead of its world release. Kalki 2898 AD aka Project K features stalwarts like Kamal Haasan and Amitabh Bachchan, along with Deepika Padukone, Disha Patani, etc.

Kalki 2898 AD is going to hit the screens in five languages worldwide on a mammoth scale on June 27. After the character reveal of Bujji in Hyderabad, the makers are now planning to organize mega pre-release events in Mumbai, Delhi, and Andhra Pradesh ahead of the worldwide release. Kalki 2898 AD will be released in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.

Set in the future and a dystopian world, the movie begins 6000 years earlier and stretches to 2898 AD, which is the reason behind the film's title. Prabhas plays the role of Bhairava while Deepika Padukone will be seen as Padma. Amitabh Bachchan will be seen as Ashwattama.

For Kalki 2898 AD, the makers have spent a mammoth of Rs 600 Crore including the fees of the stellar cast of the film. In addition, Vyjayanthi Movies have spent a whopping Rs 7 Crore on designing and making 'Bujji,' the AI-powered flying car, with a futuristic design. The character reveal event was held in Hyderabad on May 22 and Bujji is voice-powered by Keerthy Suresh.

Kalki 2898 AD features Kamal Haasan as the antagonist and he will be seen for only 20 minutes in the film, reportedly. The movie also has cameos by Vijay Deverakonda, Nani, Mrunal Thakur, and Dulquer Salmaan, who all worked in the epic films that were made on this banner earlier.

Kalki 2898 AD Faces Benefit Show & Recovery Struggles In Telangana

The producers of Kalki 2898 AD are favorable to the newly elected CM candidate of Andhra Pradesh, Nara Chandrababu Naidu of the TDP. Makers of the film already revealed that if the TDP government wins the elections, they will organize the pre-release event in AP.

With their plans realized swiftly, the focus is now on Telangana. People of AP contribute to 60 % of the entire revenue Tollywood generates as the number of theatres, shows, and population of moviegoers is high in Andhra Pradesh.

However, owing to several factors in Telangana, where there are less number of theatres and a lack of movies prompting the single-screen owners to shut down their theatres temporarily. They might also deny premieres and benefit shows for Kalki 2898 AD whereas, in AP, the ticket price for the benefit show will begin at Rs 1000 and will touch up to Rs 5000, as per the reports. The theatrical rights business of Kalki 2898 AD is another factor playing an important role in how much the movie could recover.

Prabhas' earlier film Salaar: Part 1 incurred losses in AP due to the former government's cap on ticket prices. Producers had to pay from their pockets to the distributors to recover the costs. But to make films with mammoth budgets and give away hundreds of crores to actors as remuneration, producers are fleecing the film buffs with their exorbitant hikes in ticket prices.

Kalki 2898 AD Ticket Hike For Two Weeks

According to a report on Asianet Telugu, the makers of Vyjayanthi Movies, Aswini Dutt, Swapna Dutt, and Priyanka Dutt, are going to request the new government of AP to allow a hike on the tickets. A GO regarding the same will be released after the government swears in.

Meanwhile, Kalki 2898 AD's digital streaming rights are sold to two leading OTT platforms- Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. The movie has been certified with a 'U/A' censor with a runtime of 2 hours and 50 minutes.
