Akhanda 2 Release Postponed: Nandamuri Balakrishna Film Pulled A Day Before Scheduled Opening

Nandamuri Balakrishna Film Akhanda 2 Release Cancelled

Akhanda 2 Release Postponed: The theatrical release of Akhanda 2: Thaandavam, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, has been postponed just a day before its scheduled worldwide release on December 5, 2025. The development was officially confirmed by the film's producers, 14 Reels Plus, in a statement shared on their social media platforms late on the night of December 4.

In their post, the production house expressed regret over the sudden decision, stating that the film would not be releasing as planned due to "unavoidable circumstances." The statement also acknowledged the disappointment among fans and moviegoers who had been eagerly awaiting the sequel. The makers added that efforts are underway to resolve the situation and assured that a fresh update regarding the film's release would be shared soon.

Earlier on December 4, the producers of Akhanda 2: Thaandavam announced that the India premieres scheduled for that day had been cancelled due to technical issues. In their statement, they noted, "We've tried our best, but a few things are beyond our control. Sorry for the inconvenience." While the overseas premieres were initially expected to proceed as planned, it has now been learned that these international screenings were also cancelled, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the film's release.

Akhanda 2: Thaandavam is directed by Boyapati Sreenu and produced by Ram Achanta and Gopi Achanta under the banner of 14 Reels Plus. The film is the sequel to the 2021 Telugu blockbuster Akhanda and features Nandamuri Balakrishna, Samyuktha Menon, Aadhi Pinisetty, and Kabir Duhan Singh in key roles. Music for the sequel has been composed by Thaman S, with cinematography handled by C Ramprasad and Santoshh D Detakae. The film's technical team also includes art director AS Prakash and editor Tammiraju.

Reasons for Postponement

While the official statement did not specify the exact reason behind the postponement, industry sources have suggested that the film may be facing financial hurdles. Additionally, reports indicate that the delay followed a Madras High Court order staying the film's release after an appeal filed by Eros International Media Limited. As per reports, the dispute pertains to a previous arbitration ruling in favour of Eros, involving pending dues of nearly ₹28 crore along with interest. The court has reportedly directed that Akhanda 2 not be released in theatres, on digital platforms, or via satellite until the amount is cleared. However, there has been no official confirmation of these details from the film's producers so far.

The sudden halt has come at a crucial time, with promotions already in full swing and expectations running high following the success of the first part. Akhanda (2021) emerged as a major commercial success and strengthened the successful collaboration between Balakrishna and Boyapati Sreenu, making the sequel one of the most anticipated Telugu releases of 2025.

As of now, no revised release date has been announced. Fans are awaiting further communication from the production house regarding the next steps, including whether the film will face a significant delay or be rescheduled in the coming weeks. Until then, the future release plans of Akhanda 2: Thaandavam remain uncertain.
