Actress Anupama Parameswaran has taken legal steps against a young woman from Tamil Nadu. The 20-year-old was accused of spreading false and inappropriate content about Anupama and her family on Instagram. Anupama reported the issue to the Cyber Crime Police in Kerala, who quickly identified the individual responsible for creating multiple fake accounts to post malicious comments.

Anupama shared her experience, stating, "A few days ago, it came to my notice that an Instagram profile was circulating extremely inappropriate and false content about me, my family, and even tagging my friends and co-actors. The posts included morphed pictures and baseless allegations - it was deeply distressing to witness such targeted harassment online." She emphasised the emotional toll this harassment took on her.

Cyber Harassment Consequences

The actress expressed her decision not to reveal the offender's identity due to her young age. She believes in giving the girl a chance to learn from her mistakes without jeopardising her future. Anupama stressed the importance of accountability in online spaces, warning that actions have consequences.

Anupama further elaborated on this point by stating, "Owning a smartphone or having access to social media platforms does not give anyone the right to harass, defame, or spread hatred against others. Every action online leaves a trace, and accountability will follow. We have proceeded with legal action, and the individual will face the consequences of her actions."

Support from Industry Peers

The actress received support from colleagues and fans alike after taking a stand against cyberbullying. Her industry peers have rallied behind her, recognising the seriousness of such offences. Anupama highlighted that being in the public eye does not exempt one from basic rights.

She concluded by saying, "Being an actor or a public figure doesn't strip away basic rights. Cyberbullying is a punishable offence, and accountability is real." This statement underscores the need for stricter measures against online harassment.
