Chiranjeevi Faces Backlash For Saying Ram Charan Should Have A Son To Continue Their Legacy

Chiranjeevi Faces Backlash For Remarks On Family Legacy

Chiranjeevi's Comments On Family Legacy Spark Debate On Gender Bias: Veteran Telugu actor Chiranjeevi has come under fire for his remarks at the pre-release event of Brahma Anandam, where he was the chief guest. His statements about wanting a grandson to carry forward his legacy and his description of his household have sparked controversy, drawing criticism from various quarters.

During his speech, Chiranjeevi reflected on his family dynamics, mentioning that he often feels like he is living in a "ladies' hostel" due to the presence of his granddaughters. The actor, who is the father of actor Ram Charan, expressed a desire for a grandson, stating that he frequently urges his son to have a boy so their family's legacy can continue. According to a report by Hindustan Times, he remarked, "When I'm at home, it doesn't feel like I'm surrounded by my granddaughters; it feels like I'm a ladies' hostel warden. I keep wishing and telling Charan, at least this time, have a boy so that our legacy continues, but his daughter is the apple of his eye. I'm scared that he might again have a girl."

These comments have been met with widespread criticism, with many accusing the actor of promoting gender bias. Legal expert and activist Abha Singh, in a statement quoted by PTI, condemned Chiranjeevi's remarks, emphasizing the importance of gender equality. "At a time when we are advocating gender justice, Chiranjeevi's statement is regressive. It undermines the achievements of women and the progress made in curbing gender discrimination. After years of government initiatives to reduce female foeticide, such statements are highly problematic. I urge him to reconsider his words and issue an apology," she stated.

The controversy has also sparked debates on social media, with many netizens expressing disappointment over the actor's views. While some defended his comments as casual family banter, others criticized the implications of prioritizing male heirs for legacy purposes.

Chiranjeevi's Upcoming Projects

On the professional front, Chiranjeevi was last seen in Waltair Veerayya and Bhola Shankar in 2023. He is set to return to the screen with Vishwambhara, directed by Vassishta. Additionally, he has signed a project with director Srikanth Odela.

With the backlash continuing, it remains to be seen whether Chiranjeevi will address the criticism and clarify his stance on the matter.
