Hari Hara Veera Mallu Visual Effects Faces Criticism: Hari Hara Veera Mallu: Part 1 - Sword vs Spirit, starring Pawan Kalyan in the titular role, released in theaters on July 24, 2025. Marketed as a period action-adventure set in the Mughal era, the film features a fictional account of Veera Mallu, an outlaw assigned to recover the Koh-i-Noor diamond from the empire's grip. Despite its ambitious scale and star-studded cast, the film has drawn criticism online, particularly for its visual effects.
According to a report published by Cinema Express, the production team is now considering the release of an updated version of the film with revised visual effects. Some of the sequences that drew negative attention for their CGI quality may be edited out or enhanced with improved VFX. While no official confirmation has been issued by the filmmakers yet, reports suggest that internal discussions are ongoing about how best to respond to the feedback.
Hari Hara Veera Mallu: Years in the Making with Notable Crew
The film, directed by Krish Jagarlamudi and A. M. Jyothi Krishna, was in production for several years. Principal photography began in September 2020 and concluded in May 2025 after multiple interruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Kalyan's political engagements. The earlier portions of the shoot were overseen by Jagarlamudi, with Jyothi Krishna stepping in to complete the final schedule under the former's supervision.
Set in 17th-century India under the Mughal regime, Hari Hara Veera Mallu portrays a fictional rebellion led by a warrior who defies imperial rule. The cast includes Bobby Deol, Nidhhi Agerwal, and Sathyaraj in key roles. The screenplay is written by Jagarlamudi, with dialogues by Sai Madhav Burra and Pranava Chandra.
The technical team includes music composer M.M. Keeravaani, cinematographers Manoj Paramahamsa and Gnana Shekar V.S., and editor K.L. Praveen. Thota Tharrani is credited as the production designer, while the film's action choreography involved noted stunt coordinators such as Nick Powell, Peter Hein, and Ram-Laxman.
Distributed by Mega Surya Production and presented by AM Rathnam, the film's box office performance and audience reception in the coming days may influence whether a revised cut is released.
