Kannappa Worldwide Box Office Collection: Vishnu Manchu's Kannappa, which hit theaters on June 27, 2025, has completed its first weekend in cinemas, with early estimates placing the film's global gross at around ₹30 crore. The mythological drama, based on the legend of Kannappa, is reportedly seeing the strongest response in the Telugu-speaking states, which have contributed over 60% of the total worldwide revenue so far.
The update was shared by film industry tracker AB George on X (formerly Twitter), adding to the growing data that outlines the film's performance over its opening weekend. While official figures from the production house are yet to be released, the ₹30 crore milestone suggests that the film has had a decent opening on a global scale, even as it faces varied reactions from viewers and critics alike.
Mythological Drama Faces Box Office Litmus Test After Mixed Response
Kannappa is based on the folk tale of Thinna, a tribal hunter who transforms into a devoted follower of Lord Shiva, famously offering his eyes as a mark of complete surrender and devotion. Vishnu Manchu plays the titular role and also serves as the film's writer. The film is directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh and produced by veteran actor and filmmaker Mohan Babu under the banners of Twenty Four Frames Factory and AVA Entertainment.
The ensemble cast includes prominent names such as Mohanlal as Kirata, Prabhas as Rudra, Akshay Kumar portraying Lord Shiva, and Kajal Aggarwal as Parvati. Other notable cast members include Preity Mukhundhan, Mohan Babu, R. Sarathkumar, Brahmanandam, and Madhoo, among others. The film was extensively shot in New Zealand, with Sheldon Chau handling cinematography and Stephen Devassy composing the music.
Although the film opened with considerable anticipation, it has received mixed reviews. These varied reactions may impact its sustainability at the box office in the coming days.
As Monday draws to a close-a crucial day that often sets the tone for a film's long-term run-it remains to be seen whether Kannappa can retain its momentum beyond the opening weekend. Attention now shifts to its weekday performance, especially in key markets across India.
