Kannappa: Hit Or Flop? Audience Verdict On Vishnu Manchu Film With Cameos By Prabhas, Mohanlal, & Akshay Kumar

Kannappa: Hit Or Flop? The much-anticipated Telugu mythological action drama Kannappa, starring Vishnu Manchu, finally hit theaters today across India and abroad. As one of the more prominent releases of the season, the film had already drawn attention for its grand premise, ensemble cast, and special appearances by stars like Prabhas, Mohanlal, and Akshay Kumar.
Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh and produced by veteran actor Mohan Babu under the banners of Twenty Four Frames Factory and AVA Entertainment, Kannappa is based on the legend of a tribal hunter who becomes a devout follower of Lord Shiva. The narrative revolves around Kannappa's ultimate act of sacrifice-offering his eyes to the deity-a story rooted in Hindu mythology.
Kannappa: The Early Viewers' Verdict
After its release, audiences began sharing their thoughts on social media-particularly on X (formerly Twitter). Reactions have been mixed, but the film has undeniably generated buzz, largely due to its ensemble cast and mythological premise.
While it's too soon to determine the film's commercial fate, the initial box office indicators, including advance bookings and morning show turnouts, suggest a steady start. Whether it sustains momentum will likely depend on word-of-mouth and performance over the weekend.
The supporting cast features Mohan Babu, R. Sarathkumar, Brahmanandam, Brahmaji, Siva Balaji, Preity Mukhundhan, and Madhoo, among others. The film also benefits from cameo appearances by some of the biggest names in Indian cinema-Prabhas, Mohanlal, Akshay Kumar, and Kajal Aggarwal-adding to its pan-Indian appeal.
Shot extensively in New Zealand, principal photography for Kannappa began in September 2023. The technical team includes cinematographer Sheldon Chau, editor Anthony Gonsalvez, and music composer Stephen Devassy. The sound design, featuring Dolby Atmos, was completed at Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad.
The film is available in six languages: Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, and English-underscoring its wide distribution strategy. As audience opinions continue to pour in, the coming days will reveal whether Kannappa manages to carve a lasting impression at the box office or not.
