Kota Srinivasa Rao Passes Away: Senior actor and former legislator Kota Srinivasa Rao, known for his prolific presence in Telugu cinema and his work across several Indian languages, passed away in the early hours of Sunday, July 13. He was 83. According to a report by Times of India, he died at his residence in Filmnagar, Hyderabad, after suffering from illness over the past few days.

Born on July 10, 1942, in Kankipadu, a village in Andhra Pradesh's Krishna district, Kota began his artistic journey in theater before transitioning to films. Pranam Khareedu, released in 1978, marked his entry into the film industry. Over a span of more than four decades, he appeared in over 750 films, not just in Telugu, but also in Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam.

Known for his commanding screen presence and versatility, Kota portrayed a wide range of roles-villains, comic characters, and supporting parts. He brought a distinctive style to negative roles, often blending menace with sarcasm or humour. His performances in films like Aha Naa Pellanta, Pratighatana, Yamudiki Mogudu, Siva, Bommarillu, Athadu, and Race Gurram were widely noted. His last theatrical release was Suvarna Sundari in 2023.

Beyond cinema, Kota Srinivasa Rao was also active in politics. Between 1999 and 2004, he represented Vijayawada East as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). His familiarity with political themes on screen carried over into real life during his tenure in public office. He also portrayed politicians in several films.

Kota Srinivasa Rao held a Bachelor of Science degree and worked with the State Bank of India before fully committing to acting. His initial ambition was to become a doctor, like his father, Seetha Rama Anjaneyulu. However, his early involvement in college theater drew him firmly towards the performing arts.

In 2015, he was honored with the Padma Shri in recognition of his work in Indian cinema. Over the years, he also earned several Nandi Awards from the Andhra Pradesh government.

Kota Srinivasa Rao is survived by his wife, Rukmini, and two daughters. His only son, Kota Venkata Anjaneya Prasad, also an actor, died in a road accident in 2010. Kota Srinivasa Rao's younger brother, Kota Sankara Rao, is also associated with the entertainment industry, primarily acting in television serials.

Condolences have poured in from members of the film fraternity and political leaders following the news of his demise.
