Manchu Vishnu Talks Nepotism, Telugu Cinema Growth, And Pushpa 2 Controversies In Exclusive Interview

Manchu Vishnu Speaks Out: Manchu Vishnu, the son of the legendary actor Manchu Mohan Babu, has carved a unique identity for himself in the Tollywood industry. Known for his impressive performances and involvement in various projects, Vishnu is currently serving as the president of the Movie Artists Association (MAA). He is also gearing up for his dream project, Kannappa, which is slated to release soon. In a recent special interview with Filmibeat Telugu, Vishnu opened up about various aspects of his personal and professional life, offering a glimpse into his thoughts on industry matters, the growth of Telugu cinema, and much more.
Nepotism in the Industry: Manchu Vishnu's Stand
One of the most discussed topics in the Indian film industry in recent years has been nepotism. The conversation around this issue has gained significant traction, and Vishnu took the opportunity to share his opinion on the matter. He acknowledged that the term "nepotism" has been widely used in the industry for the past few years, and he has clarified his stance on it multiple times.
Vishnu firmly stated that nepotism does not work in the film industry and that opportunities don't arise simply because of one's family connections. He explained, "If a new actor's father or mother is a hero, heroine, or producer, the first movie offer may be easier to get. However, whether the audience accepts an actor or not is entirely based on their talent." He emphasized that no matter how big an actor's family background may be, if the actor lacks the talent to impress the audience, they will not succeed in the industry. Vishnu further questioned, "Why would the audience come to theaters to watch my films if I do not have the talent to entertain them?" He believes that talent is the key to staying relevant in the industry, regardless of one's family ties.
The Rise of Telugu Cinema: A Unified Indian Audience
Vishnu also shared his thoughts on the growing stature of Telugu cinema, highlighting that viewers across India-whether from the South or the North-are embracing films from all regions. He noted that the language of the film no longer matters as much as the content itself. "People are willing to watch films in any language as long as the content is heart-touching," he said. Vishnu drew attention to the increasing popularity of Korean films, which have captivated audiences even without a common language. "The youth, despite not knowing the language, are enjoying Korean films by following the subtitles and connecting with the emotions portrayed on screen," he added.
Vishnu pointed out that today, there are no barriers between South and North in the Indian film industry. He observed that actors from various regional industries are working in Telugu films, and vice versa. "The lines between Bollywood, Tollywood, and other industries have blurred," he remarked, noting the growing pan-India appeal of Telugu cinema.
Sandhya Theater Stampede: Vishnu's View On Tragic Incident
In light of the recent Pushpa 2 theater stampede, where a woman tragically died and her young son was critically injured during the film's premiere at Sandhya Movie Theater near RTC X Roads, Hyderabad, Manchu Vishnu shared his perspective. He condemned the incident, calling it regrettable, and suggested that celebrities should take responsibility to prevent such occurrences in the future.
Though actor Allu Arjun was not directly involved in the incident, Vishnu pointed out that it affected not only Arjun's family but the entire industry. He warned that such incidents could happen to any actor, potentially making it difficult for them to enjoy watching their films in theaters. Vishnu stressed the importance of celebrities acting responsibly to avoid such situations, emphasizing that their actions reflect on the industry as a whole.
He shared, "Every actor wishes to sit among their fans and watch the movie they've acted in. They want to see how the audience is responding when they appear on the silver screen. The joy from that moment cannot be matched by anything else. But when such unfortunate incidents happen, celebrities must be more responsible in their actions."
Vishnu Reflects on Pushpa 2 and Celebrity Criticism
Vishnu also took the opportunity to address the ongoing discussions surrounding the content of Pushpa 2 and the criticism celebrities face in general. He believes that movies should be viewed primarily as entertainment and that audiences should enjoy films for what they are. "When you look at something from a distance, everything seems perfect. But when you start scrutinizing things closely, flaws become apparent," he noted.
The actor expressed his concern over the growing trend of personal attacks on celebrities, which has become more intense in recent years. He lamented that criticism is increasingly turning into personal attacks, with some making it a passion to target those in the limelight. Vishnu urged the public to differentiate between criticism of work and personal attacks, stressing that the latter often crosses a line.
