Naga Chaitanya hit the screens after two long years with an entirely new makeover as a rural fisherman from Srikakulam. In the movie titled Thandel starring Sai Pallavi as the female lead, director Chandoo Mondeti tried to bring the real-life incident of a fisherman getting caught by the Pakistan authorities for entering international waters and the entire struggle until he returned home. With a focus only on the romantic love story depicted in Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi's roles, the movie with Devi Sri Prasad's heart-touching music and score finally hit the screens after moving out of the Sankranthi race. The movie is earning decent reviews and appreciation for the film's cast upon its theatrical release.

For her husband, Naga Chaitanya's first release after their marriage, the 'Made In Heaven' actress wrote a special message on her Instagram story. She shared a picture of Naga Chaitanya from Thandel and wrote, "#Thandel release day tomorrow! Excitement peaks. I have seen you be so focused and positive through the making of this film, can't wait for everyone (and myself) to experience this extra-ordinary love story in the theatres from tomorrow. Finally gaddam shave chesthavu.. modati sari ni mukham darshanam avuthundi saami @chayakkineni, (sic)." She added a heart and hi-five (also a namaskaram) emoticons with the text. The Telugu text translates to, "Finally you will shave your beard and I will see your face."

However, the first-ever picture of Sobhita Dhulipala and Naga Chaitanya that popped up on the internet talking about their London trip and alleged love affair has Naga Chaitanya without a beard.
