However, the film also faced criticism on social media over the portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor's character. Several viewers and celebrities raised concerns about the way the female lead was presented, sparking a wider debate about the representation of women in mainstream cinema. Reports stated that director Buchi Babu Sana later apologized and promised changes to address the concerns.

Despite the controversy, Peddi remained a major draw at the ticket windows. The film opened with an impressive Rs 51cr net in India on Day 1. It collected Rs 26.90cr on Day 2, followed by Rs 28.85cr on Day 3. On Day 4, the film added another Rs 31.90cr. With this, its four-day India net collection reached approximately Rs 157.15cr, proving that audience interest remained strong throughout its opening weekend. Talking about Peddi during an event, director Buchi Babu Sana stated, "Peddi is an emotional journey. It is about how a sportsperson earns identity and respect and influences the people around him. Peddi faces setbacks, falls several times, but rises stronger every time. How he overcomes those challenges forms the heart of the story. Even after watching it so many times, the final 40 to 50 minutes still make me emotional. I have cried several times while watching those portions. My friends who have seen the film told me that I have made a good film and assured me that audiences will connect with it".
