Yet
another
'Maro
Charitra'
from
Balachander
Udaykiran, who made his debut into films with Chitram directed by Teja earned a lover boy image in Telugu and gave hits like Nuvve Nuvve and Manasanta Nuvve. However, he almost vanished from the Telugu cinema due to unknown reasons and became busy in Tamil films. He got an opportunity to play the lead in the prestigious 101st film of K Balachander in Tamil called Poi, produced by versatile artiste Prakashraj. The producer is a staunch worshipper of Balachander and says it is his tribute to the great director. The film has a great love story and truly it is yet another 'Maro Charitra' of this great director.
Vemana (Udaykiran) is the son of a political leader. Vemana's father is very principled and never recommend anyone for anything out of honesty. Vemana who doesn't have any job caught in a political game and to escape from it, leaves for Sri Lanka. He befriends with one Benarjee, a Bengali and gets place in his room. Accidentally, Vemana gets attracted to Shilpa (Vimala Raman) and falls in love with her. However, Shilpa had a strong ambition to become an IAS officer and serve the society. She believes that love, marriage would be the major hitches in achieving her target. Vemana meets her and lies that his name as Bala Vinayakan @ Bala. She keeps rejecting him, but Bala will never give up. At this juncture, Bala gives her a bracelet which would remind his love to her. She fails to part with it. Meanwhile, one Roshan enters the scene and says that he is love with Shilpa right from his childhood. Roshan is basically a good dancer. On one occasion, Roshan meets Bala and Benarjee and pleads with them to find her lover. Then Bala realizes that it is none other than Shilpa. In this backdrop, Ramya (Geetu Mohandas), Shilpa's sister-in-law, reaches Colombo and question why Shilpa was moody and tells her that Shilpa is really in love Bala. In order to get rid of one of the two Romeos, Shilpa holds a dance contest in which Roshan loses. With Roshan's loss, Bala feels that he won her love. But Shilpa tells Bala frankly what she has in mind and wanted to leave her. To make her happy, Bala decides to leave for India. However, he realizes that her passport was with him, he thought of returning it to her. Learning that Bal and Shilpa are parting ways, Roshan thought of uniting them and tells a lie to each other that they were about to commit suicide. But, Bala goes earlier and finds that his bracelet and Shilpa's dupatta on the seashore. He believes that Shilpa had already committed suicide, Bala ends life. By the time Shilpa reaches the place, Bala is dead. Unable to live without him, Shilpa also commits suicide, The film ends as a tragedy.
Possitive:
The
performance
of
all
the
artistes
are
plus
points
in
the
film.
Everyone
in
the
film
including
Udaykiran,
Vimala

Gitu

and
others

The
film
once
again
proved
that
Balachander
is
the
master
of
direction.
The
film
would
be
yet
another
master
piece
in
his
film
career.
Especially,
the
illusion
of
a
father
(Balachander)
and
fate
(Prakashraj)
and
their

would
be
another
highlight
and
plus
point
for
this

Vimala
Raman,
the
gorgeous

who
was

but
basically
a

Gitu

Negitive:
Though
the

is
quite
good,
the
tragic
end
of
the

could
be
a
minus
point
for
the
film.
The
killing

is
also
unnecessary
as
it
has
nothing
to

the

as
the

Remarks:
It
is
a

It
is
not
that
easy
to

the

The
present

this

who

in
a
