Despite being a Telugite, Vishal debuted in Tamil films. His films like Bharani, Pandemkodi, Pogaru were dubbed into Telugu and became hits in Andhra Pradesh. The latest among these are 'Bhayya'. Though the film was produced and dubbed into Telugu simultaneously along with its Tamil original Malaikottai, the Telugu version was postponed a week due to some technical difficulties.

The Tamil version got a very good opening boosting the confidence of its producer and director that the Telugu version will also be a hit. However, the film opened with an above average success after release. Director Bhoopathy Pandiyan succeeded in making of the film a good comedy in the first half and in making the film a commercial entertainer.

Story:
Jagan (Vishal) is an angry young man. He will do anything to make his friends and family happy. Once his friend gets harassed by a local MLA, Jagan deals with and teached them a lesson. The MLAs' men then file a case against Jagan who applies for conditional bail. As per the court order, Jagan has to sign in a register at a police station everyday. While he was on his way to the police station, Jagan finds Malathi (Priyamani) and falls in love with her.

Parellely there is a local mafia goon called Mallanna (Devaraj) who he kills an RDO in broad daylight. No one dares to be witness to the murder. With pressure from the police, Mallanna leaves the place and goes abroad. In the meantime, Jagan reveals his love to Malathi. In order to avoid Jagan, Mallanna says that she is in love with Sekhar (Ajay), Mallanna"s brother. Being made a fool of, Jagan congratulates Sekhar.

Getting to know of this, Sekhar starts teasing Malathi. Upon learning that Malathi actually has no love for Sekhar, Jagan deals with Sekhar. Hearing that Sekhar was beaten up by someone, Mallanna returns to city. The movie ends with Jagan teaching Mallana a lesson. The ends on a happy note.

Plus Points:
Vishal excelled in his performance. He proved that he could act in comedy roles too. The action scenes were choreographed in a stylish way by Kanal Kannan. Another notable performance is by Asish Vidyarthi. He has also performed in his comedy role well and acted will in his role as a police officer along with Urvasi. Priyamani was gorgeous in modern outfits. Surprisingly, all those modern outfits were very good but she did not expose her body at all, despite her role being a glamour role. Seasoned artiste Devaraj did justice to his role as villain. Composer Mani Sharma's music is another highlight of the movie. However, all the songs sounded similar but for a couple of songs.

Minus Points:
The major draw back of the film as usual is the nativity problem. Though some scenes were reshot for the Telugu version, the same scenes continue to have Tamil signboards. The actors in the film were all dressed in costumes and had mannerisms that were distinctly Tamil. The same is the case with the tunes and the hero's buddies and villain's gang and their attires were completely drenched with Tamil scent. Likewise, the tunes were also totally Tamil ones. Except for this aspect of the movie, the movie has the formula for a hit.

Conclusion:
Vishal, who earned a good name as an action hero with all his earlier films, has apparently realised that a mere action hero image will not do for long and chose to try different path thereby trying some full length comedy. He hopes the film would give him the necessary change of image.
