Sangamam Review

The cinematographer turned director Rasool Ellore once again proved that he has a good taste towards the Indian tradition and culture. He has brought out the film with an excellent feel. The film doesn't have any kind of elements to appease the mass audiences, but it is quite lovable to city audiences. Most part of the film has been shot in the US. The producers might have agreed to do a film as they have really tasted the culture of both the countries and really want to showcase what they really missed by settling abroad. The director has successfully proved that the culture is not as bad as the people in India think.

Raghava Rao (Avinash) is a landlord and Jagadish (Muralimohan) is his brother. Jagadish leaves for US against the wishes of his elder brother, after marrying a foreigner. His wife dies after giving birth to a girl called Sneha (Sarah). Raghava Rao is of the opinion, that many Indians are selling away their knowledge to foreigners and are ditching the country. After the death of his wife, Jagadish suffers loss in business and returns to India, but Raghava Rao refuses to allow him into his house. But, feeling pity at the child, Raghava Rao's mother accompanies Jagadish to the US. Raghava Rao also has a daughter called Sanskruti (Sindhura Gadde). She meets with an accident and the doctors diagnose that she is suffering from a heart-related disease and on the doctors' advice goes to the US for a surgery. Dr Lata (Suhasini) receives Sanskruti in the US. She stays just opposite Jagadish's house. Jagadish feared to reveal the relationship, but Sneha befriends with Sanskruti. Abhiram (Rohit Khurana) is an agricultural scientist in the US. As he has lost his parents in his childhood, his sister (Anita) and brother-in-law, who have settled in the US bring him up. Abhiram loses his heart to Sanskriti. Even his sister and brother-in-law accept his love and encourage him to propose to her. But, Sanskriti doesn't want to embarrass her father, as he feels that his brother committed a mistake by marrying a foreigner. So, she refuses his proposal. Accidentally, Sanskriti meets her grandmother (Radhakumari) and realises the truth that Jagadish is not at fault. She spends a good time with their family. The surgery is done successfully and Sanskriti recovers. Following a call from her father, she decides to return to India. Abhi can not digest the fact and feels very bad. After returning to India, Sanskriti tells her father that Jagadish is feeling very sorry for missing his brother, though he is helping Raghava Rao indirectly to earn a good name. Raghava Rao realises his folly and calls up Jagadish. Later, Abhi visits India as an agricultural scientist to help the farmers and reach the village where Sanskriti stays. He boldly expresses his love towards Sanskriti to Raghava Rao. Realising the honesty and love of Abhi, Raghava Rao accepts their love and the film ends on a happy note with the marriage of Abhi and Sanskriti.

PLUS: The major plus point in the film is the real feel maintained by the director all through the film. The audiences can not find the artistes but they can watch only the characters. Everyone in the film has involved deeply in the character and lived in those roles. Moreover, the director maintained good tempo all through the film. The screenplay is so tight that one can't find even a single scene, which appears waste in the entire film. Comedy by Brahmanandam is enjoyable. The hero, though not very handsome, showed very good performance. Even Sindhura, though bagged Miss India award, before her entry into films, did not go for unnecessary exposure. Her character has been moulded as a traditional Indian girl and she has too done the job in a most religious way. All the other characters in the film including Suhasini, Muralimohan and others have done complete justice to their roles. The director succeeded in mesmerising the audiences and took them away straight to the US. They almost immerse in the film totally. The songs in the film tuned by Keeravani too are melodious. Choreography of songs is also nice to watch.

MINUS: The only minus point in the film is the missing of mass and commercial elements. The absence of these elements might result in less revenue and the film may not become a commercial hit.

REMARKS: The director has brought out the film with no mindless violence, cheap comedy or over action by any of the artistes. At the same time, the film too does not have sentimental overdose like other Telugu films of the day.
