Telugu
movie
King
has
been
conceptualized
by
Srinu
Vaitla
with
the
sole
idea
of
pleasing
Nagarjuna's
fans.
Writers,
Kona
Venkat
and
Gopi
have
worked
hard
on
the
script
which
is
in
tune
with
Nagarjuna's
image.
Srinu
Vaitla's
brilliant
eye
for
commercial
cinematic
aspects
has
given
the
movie
its
dramatic
and
mass
appeal.
The
biggest
highlight
of
King
is
the
triple
role
that
Nagarjuna
has
carried
off
with
finesse.
The
story
opens
with
local
goonda
Gyaneshwar
(Srihari)
being
ousted
from
his
territory
by
Bottu
Seenu
(Nagarjuna).
When
Gyaneshwar
protests,
Seenu
agrees
to
give
him
a
small
percentage
of
the
profits.
Seenu
then
meets
Sravani
(Trisha)
and
predictably
falls
in
love
with
her.
But
Sravani
is
in
love
with
Sharath,
a
very
soft-spoken
kind-hearted
software
engineer
(again
played
by
Nagarjuna).
Then
Seenu
stumbles
on
a
well-hidden
truth
-
Sravani
is
Gyaneshwar's
sister.
Since
Gyaneshwar
didn't
want
to
spoil
Sravni's
future,
he
had
sent
her
to
live
with
their
aunt
(Sana)
and
uncle
(M.S.
Narayana).
At
this
juncture,
a
third
Nagarjuna
makes
his
appearance,
the
'King'
after
whom
the
movie
is
named.
Now
what
relation
do
all
the
three
avatars
have
with
each
other
and
who
will
Trisha
marry
is
something
that
has
to
be
seen
on
the
big
screen
to
fully
relish
the
intricacies
of
the
plot.
Nagarjuna
is
truly
the
'King'
of
actors
as
he
moves
with
ease
from
a
goonda
role
to
a
city
slicker
role
to
being
a
member
of
royalty.
As
Seenu,
Nagarjuna
appeals
to
the
masses
and
as
Sharath,
he
appeals
to
the
middle-class
and
family
audiences,
but
in
the
role
of
King,
Nagarjuna
crosses
all
barriers
and
appeals
to
everyone,
regardless
of
class.
Trisha
has
held
her
own
opposite
Nagarjuna
and
has
given
a
good
performance.
Mamta
Mohandas,
though
touted
as
the
second
heroine,
has
been
reduced
to
a
mere
cameo
but
sizzles
even
in
the
brief
scenes
that
she
appears
in.
Srihari
as
the
innocent
don
captures
audiences'
empathy.
Brahmanandam
in
his
role
of
a
lecherous
music
director
is
hilarious.
Much
of
King
seems
to
be
inspired
by
other
movies
and
Srinu
Vaitla
has
done
a
very
good
job
of
tying
up
all
the
loose
ends,
though
the
screenplay
suffers
from
lack
of
finesse.
Bowing
to
the
sentiments
of
the
masses,
Srinu
Vaitla
has
compromised
on
quality.
He
is
capable
of
better
scripts
and
can
churn
out
a
good
film
on
less.
But
though
King
suffers
from
lack
of
direction,
it
is
a
Nagarjuna
film
through-and-through
and
Srinu
Vaitla
has
done
a
commendable
job
of
steering
the
film
through
all
the
twists
and
turns
that
the
plot
takes.
A
very
enjoyable
movie
for
Nagarjuna's
fans.
