Chanakyudu – Movie Review

Taneesh, who has appeared as child artiste in many films, made his entry into the Telugu film industry as hero with Nachavule. His second film Ride was also a moderate hit at the Box Office. From then onwards, the success eluded this young chap. His films like Yem Pilo Yem Pillado and Kodipunju bumped at the Box Office. His latest film Mem Vayasuku Vahcham, however, made a mark again. Now, he is back with the movie Chanakyudu.

Story: Swapna's (Ishita Datta) parents are killed by her maternal cousins to grab their property. So she lives away from her relatives. However, she wants to marry a right person from their joint family. Finally, her search ends with Chanakya (Taneesh), belonging to their family. But Chanakya always tries to get rid of her. Why he avoids her? What happens to Swapna's love? Will she be able to win his heart? Answers to all these questions have to be seen on the silver screen.

Performance: Taneesh has shown improvement in his acting in this film. He looks good in action scenes, but fails to impress in romantic sequences. Ishita Datta has filled the glamour slot well. The director has given more scope to her role in the film too. Other artists have done justice to their roles. Though there are five villains in the film, the director has not cared to give any prominence to anyone of them.

Technical: The movie has poor production values. Neither the camera work nor the editing is worth mentioning. The director appears to have not gone for digital intermediate (DI) work for the film. Rahul and Vengi's music has failed to impress the audiences. Only two songs like 'Naa Cheliya Navvu...' and 'Naa Swasalona...' are good - Both in music and choreography. The background score in re-recording is poor.

The director has chosen an old subject which had appeared many times on the Telugu screen earlier. He has penned a tight screenplay and given a novel movement to the subject. Audiences are pushed into the dilemma whether the story runs in present mode or in flashback as the director himself does not have the clarity on it. Somehow, it's clarified in the climax. Despite several murders, there is no enquiry of police and only at one place we can find the entry of police.

Remarks: If you are a fan of Taneesh, watch the movie, otherwise you can skip it.
