Veerappan - Movie Review
Director AMR Ramesh has done a multilingual biopic based on the notorious forest brigand Veerappan. Its Kannada version Attahasa and Tamil version Vana Yuddham have hit the screens on February 14 and garnered both critical and commercial success in both languages. After seven months of its release, the Telugu version Veerappan has hit the marquee in Andhra Pradesh and it is sure to rock the audience here too.
The story of Veerappan is not new to the people of South India. Lot has been written and shown on TV about this forest brigand's activities. But what makes this Telugu movie so special and interesting is AMR's cinematic presentation of the subject on screen and his direction is coupled with Kishore's excellent performance. AMR's dialogues, Sandeep Chowta's music, Vijay Milton's camera work, art direction and costumes are other highlights of the film.
Veerappan is an action drama, which has completely been shot in the forest, where Veerappan was conducting his smuggling operations, when he was alive. The movie touches some of the important milestones in the life of the notorious forest brigand. AMR Ramesh, who has done extensive research on Veerappan's life, has taken utmost care on bringing even minute details on screen.

Veerappan Story
The movie begins with the story of Veerappan's childhood days and it ends with his death. This documentary covers all important events in his life (January 18, 1952 to October 18, 2004). AMR Ramesh will impress the film goers with his interesting screenplay and punch dialogues.
Veerappan Rocks You Sans Masala Elements
The first half of the movie focuses on Veerappan's illegal activities like killing elephants and smuggling ivory and sandalwood. The second half features Rajkumar's kidnap and Government's attempt to get him released and nab the forest brigand. The show runs without boring you and AMR Ramesh does it sans commercial elements. He has good grip on the narration of the story.
Kishore's Performance As Veerappan
The main attraction in the movie Veerappan is the performance of popular South Indian actor Kishore, who has played the title role in the movie. He has delivered brilliant acting. His mannerism and dialogue delivery are just superb. He is a perfect match for the role.
Arjun-Ravi's Performances
The acting of Arjun Sarja and Ravi Kale will also leave you awestruck. The two talented actors, who appear as police officers in Veerapan, have delivered wonderful performances.
Suresh Oberoi As Late Dr Rajkumar
Bollywood actor Suresh Oberoi has played late actor Dr Rajkumar. He has delivered wonderful performance. His appearance on-screens teases the memory of the fans of Annavru.
Supporting Cast In Veerappan
Actress Lakshmi Rai has very less scope in the film and viewers can hardly feel her presence on screen. Others like Vijayalakshmi, Jayachitra, Sulakshana, Shikha, Yogi Devaraj, Suma Guha have also delivered brilliant performance.
Production Values In Veerappan
Veerapan has rich production values and Sandeep Chowta's background score and Vijay Milton's cinematography are the main attractions in the technical front. Other departments like makeup, costumes, art direction and editing have also done commendable job.
Veerappan Verdict
Overall, Veerappan is a very good documentary on the forest brigand. AMR Ramesh has tried his best to entertain. Its brilliant performances and rich production values will impress you.
