Comedian Brahmanandam's son Gautham made his acting debut with 2004 film Pallakilo Pelli Kuturu, which bombed at the Box Office. After seven years, he played hero in movie Vareva, which also failed to give him a break. In a bid to get a hit, he has done lot of hard work for his third movie Basanti, which has hit the screens today. Even leading stars like Chiranjeevi, Mahesh Babu, Pawan Kalyan, NTR, Prabhas, Allu Arjun and Ram Charan have helped to promote the film.

Basanti is a romantic action entertainer with all masala elements and Gautham's good performance is the main attractions in the film. Baanam fame Chaitanya Dantuluri's direction, Mani Sharma's amazing background score and soundtracks, beautiful picturisation, a few sentimental sequences and well-choreographed action scenes and Alisha Baig's glamour are other highlights of the film. A few dragging moments are its big drawback.

Chaitanya Dantuluri has written a routine love story of college students for Basanti, but he has added the issue of terrorism in it. Set in the backdrop of terrorism, the movie narrates how a student struggles to save his love interest, who is trapped in the college that is invaded by terrorist. The movie starts on a slow note, but picks up the speed at the interval bang. The pace of narration slows down again after the first few minutes of the second half.

Gautham is an ordinary boy next door, who is studying in the Basanti Arts College. His only aim in life is to win the heat of his love interest Alisha Baig. But she becomes a hostage of terrorist, when they attack her college. Will Gautham try to save her? What happens next will form the crux of the movie.

When compared to his previous films, Gautham has shown lot of maturity in his acting in Basanti and his subtle performance is the main highlight in the film. He rocks the viewers with his amazing fights and dialogues diction. Alisha Baig has tried her best to do justice to her role and she impresses you with her glamour. Ranadeep Ghatla, Sayaji Shinde, Naveena Jackson, KSI Anand, Tanikella Bharani, Dhanraj, Mani Kiran, Dhaya have delivered good performances, which are also among the big assets of the film.

Basanti has rich production values and Mani Sharma's amazing background score is the main highlight in the technical front. The songs composed by him are also good assets of the film. The cinematography is another big highlight of the film. Other tech departments like art direction, dialogues, costumes, makeup and editing have also done a commendable job.

Overall, Baanam fame Chaitanya Dantuluri has made a wonderful attempt through Basanti, which has all the elements to impress the mass audience.
