Rating:
3.0/5

Cheekati Rajyam Story:

The story, which is an adaption of French film, Sleepless Night is about one night in the life of an officer from Narcotics Control Bureau. The film takes off as two men, Diwakar (Kamal Haasan) and Mani (Yugi Sethu) steals a bag of cocaine from a car, which belongs to a drug-lord Vital (Prakash Raj). He makes a deal to deliver it to the buyer (Sampath), the night the bag was stolen and here begins the rush for chasing the burglar. Vital kidnaps Diwakar's son to get the cocaine back as the buyer starts pressurizing him. While the officers, (Trisha and Kishore) are also in chase of him, how did Diwakar saved himself and his son from the situation forms the story.

Performances:

Universal Star Kamal Haasan delivers his best as usual and the beauty of the film is that the stars stick to the characters written for them and you don't get to see much of theatrics and larger than life character sketches. Prakash Raj strikes the chord with his unusual antics and he was perfect as the antogonist once again. Trisha, Madhu Shalini, Sampath, Kishore and Yugi Sethu lived their roles and delivered what has to go with story, irrespective of their screen times.

Technical Aspects:

Directed by Rajesh Selvan, the films lacks a racy narrative as it looks like it is almost happening right now. The entire film was set in a night club while a handful of people chasing for one man. Though it sounds silly, the director was successful in keeping up the thrill factor and execute it believably. Fights were brilliant and the camera work by Sanu Varghese goes well with the theme. Thankfully there were no songs in the film and Ghibran's back ground music need a special mention since he almost made the director's job easy with his perfect instrumentation.

Overview:

Kamal Haasan's Cheekati Rajyam, though is not an edgy or racy thriller, the artists performances, ideal run time and the story makes it a must watch. Read more in the slides below.
