Shaakuntalam First Review: Samantha Prabhu Starrer Epic Modern-Day Shakantala's Tale Gets A Mix Reaction!

Shaakuntalam, directed by Gunasekhar is gearing up for a huge worldwide theatrical release on April 11. The movie is based on the Indian epic Mahabharatha's tale 'Abhignana Shakauntalam' written by Kalidasa.

Abhignana Shakuntalam is a remarkable epic tale of love and war depicting the lives of Shakuntala and Dushyanta. The movie is also made available in the 3D format for kids and families to enjoy a movie date together.

Shaakuntalam is a pan-India film of Samantha in the female-oriented story, after Yashoda. Interestingly, for the first time, actress dubbed in three languages- Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi. "It was difficult but necessary. I will continue to do it," shared Samantha.

Ahead of its theatrical release, as the promotions are on full-swing, the makers of Shaakuntalam have organized a premiere for select viewers in Mumbai and Hyderabad. First reviews on the film poured in, and they have different opinions to share. While a few opined that 3D version is better, a section is divided over the same.

Shaakuntalam Ensemble Cast

The periodic fantasy tale stars Malayalam actor Dev Mohan in the role of Dushyanta, making his Telugu debut. Manchu Mohan Babu is playing Durvasa Maharishi, and Sachin Khedekar will be seen in the role of Kanva Maharishi. Aditi Balan and Ananya Nagalla played the roles of Priyamvada and Anasuya in the movie. Prakash Raj can be seen playing Sarangi's character. Gautami Tadimalla plays Gautami, and Madhoo will be seen as Apsara Menaka. Kabir Bedi is cast as Kashyapa Maharishi and Jisshnu Sengupta as Indra Deva. Kabir Duhan Singh is seen as King Asura. Varshini Sounderajan played the role of Sanumathi. Allu Arha made her acting debut as Prince Bharata. In addition, Harish Uthaman, Subbaraji, Aadarsh Balakrishna, and Yash Puri played important characters in the film.

The film's screenplay is written by director Gunasekhar himself. Sekhar V Joseph cranked the camera as its cinematographer. Prawin Pudi worked as Shaakuntalam's editor. Mani Sharma composed the film's entire background score and tunes.

Dil Raju's Sri Venkateswara Creations is presenting the film produced by Neelima Guna under the Gunaa Teamworks banners.
