Just before its anticipated release, 'Kaathal – The Core', starring Mammootty and Jyothika, faced bans in Kuwait and Qatar. Allegedly, the film's storyline containing elements of homosexuality prompted this decision. Directed by Jeo Baby, renowned for the acclaimed 'The Great Indian Kitchen', and jointly written by Adarsh Sukumaran and Paulson Skaria. The film produced by Mammotty Company and released in theaters on last year, made a great impact at the box office.
Reports suggest that 'Monster' encountered a ban in Gulf countries due to its depiction of LGBTQ content. Despite the filmmakers' efforts to seek re-evaluation from the Censor Board, the film failed to meet the required standards. As a result, 'Monster' remains unreleased in Gulf nations. Starring Mohanlal and directed by Vysakh, the movie premiered in theaters in 2022.
Directed by Srinath Rajendran, the Malayalam film 'Kurup' serves as a biopic depicting the life of fugitive Sukumara Kurup. Starring Dulquer Salmaan in the titular role, the 2021 release garnered both commercial success and critical acclaim. Despite its achievements, the film faced a ban on its release in Kuwait. Allegedly, the reason behind the ban lies in its portrayal of an Indian fugitive seeking asylum in a GCC nation.
The United Arab Emirates imposed a ban on the screening of 'Gaddama,' directed by Kamal. This groundbreaking Malayalam film sheds light on the harsh living conditions faced by Malayali home nurses employed in the Gulf region. It is notable for being the first of its kind to address this issue.
