The makers of Batwara 1947 (formerly titled Lahore 1947) have locked in its release date, setting the stage for a highly anticipated box office clash between two contrasting cinematic styles. Adding to the excitement, this face-off comes exactly 19 years after Sunny Deol and Emraan Hashmi last went head-to-head in 2007, when Awarapan released alongside Apne, making this showdown even more nostalgic for fans.

Batwara 1947 (formerly titled Lahore 1947) boasts a star-studded ensemble along with a National Award-winning creative team, marking the much-awaited reunion of actor Sunny Deol, director Rajkumar Santoshi, and producer Aamir Khan. The film features Sunny Deol in the lead role, alongside Preity Zinta, who makes a major comeback to Bollywood as the female lead. The cast also includes Shabana Azmi in a powerful role, Ali Fazal in a key supporting part, and Karan Deol, Sunny Deol’s son, who was selected after extensive auditions. Abhimanyu Singh plays the main antagonist, while Mona Singh appears in an important supporting role.

Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, Batwara 1947 is a poignant period drama inspired by Asghar Wajahat’s acclaimed play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, O Jamya E Nai. Set against the backdrop of the Partition, the story follows a Muslim family that migrates from Lucknow to Lahore and is allotted a haveli left behind by a Hindu family. Awarapan 2 is officially slated for a theatrical release on August 14, 2026, perfectly timed for the Independence Day weekend. The film is a much-awaited sequel to the 2007 cult romantic thriller Awarapan. Emraan Hashmi returns as the iconic Shivam Pandit, joined by Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi in key roles. Directed by Nitin Kakkar, taking over from Mohit Suri of the original, the film is produced by Vishesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt under the Vishesh Films banner, raising expectations for another intense and emotional cinematic experience.
