Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story, Everything About Rajkummar Rao’s Much-Awaited Biopic on the Cricket Legend

Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story is an upcoming biographical sports drama featuring National Award-winning actor Rajkummar Rao in the role of legendary former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane, the film has already generated significant buzz. Its first-look poster was unveiled on July 8, 2026, marking the occasion of Ganguly’s 54th birthday. 

Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story features Rajkummar Rao in the titular role, alongside Tanya Maniktala as Dona Ganguly. The film also stars Saswata Chatterjee as Chandi Ganguly, Aparajita Adhya as Nirupa Ganguly, and Rahul Dev Bose as Snehasish Ganguly, with Gajraj Rao portraying Jagmohan Dalmiya and Marc Danbury as Greg Chappell. Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, the biographical drama is produced by Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg under the banner of Luv Films.

The striking first-look poster showcases Rajkummar Rao recreating Sourav Ganguly’s iconic jersey-waving moment on the balcony of Lord’s Cricket Ground. The scene pays tribute to India’s historic victory in the 2002 NatWest Trophy against England, a defining moment in cricket history. Ganguly’s bold celebration symbolised a fearless new era for Indian cricket under his leadership. Even decades later, the image continues to stand as a powerful symbol of confidence, defiance, and self-belief for millions of fans.

The film is officially scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on May 14, 2027. The makers have strategically chosen the extended Eid holiday weekend to maximise its reach and audience turnout. With this festive release, the biopic is expected to draw strong footfall in cinemas.
