From a Small-Town Comedian to a Film and Television Icon, Robo Shankar's Journey Defined a Generation of Tamil Comedy

Before his rise to fame, Robo Shankar was dedicated to bodybuilding and even won the "Mister Madurai" title. He began his entertainment career as a mimicry artist and dancer, performing in village shows. His unique robot-style dance moves earned him the nickname "Robo," which he carried throughout his professional life.

Robo Shankar gained immense popularity and became a household name through the Star Vijay television show Kalakka Povathu Yaaru?. His spontaneous humor, witty one-liners, and distinct body language on the comedy reality show captivated audiences and served as a launching pad for his career in the film industry.

While he had an uncredited role in a Rajinikanth film, his breakthrough in cinema came with the 2013 movie Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara. This role led to a steady stream of comedic parts in numerous films, where he shared the screen with prominent actors like Dhanush, Vijay, and Ajith.

Robo Shankar was an ardent and lifelong fan of actor Kamal Haasan, often expressing his admiration in interviews. Robo Shankar's health declined in recent months after he lost significant weight due to a diagnosis of jaundice.
