From Lawyer To Oscar Winner : Resul Pookutty's Inspiring Journey In Indian Cinema

Resul Pookutty was born in a poor family and had faced a lot of challenges during his childhood. His father was a private bus ticket checker and they had to struggle a lot in order to survive. But his family never failed to provide good education to him.

After completing school education Pookutty earned a bachelor's degree from  Milad-E-Sherief Memorial College, Kayamkulam. Later he got an admission at Government Law College , Trivandrum. How ever, he dropped the course in between and joined in Pune Film Institute. After long years wait, Pookutty completed his graduation course in 'Law' and enrolled as an advocate in 2012. 

Before entering into film industry, Pookutty was a lawyer. While studying second year, he realized that he was not interested in this area and later he moved to Pune to purse film studies.  But  after 17 years later,  Pookutty who completed the course, because  his father had a wish him to become a lawyer. 

After competing graduation from Pune Film Institute, he stepped into the film industry as a sound designer. He made his debut in 1997 through the Rajat Kapoor's film Private Detective: Two Plus Two Plus One. Later, he worked with veteran film maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the film 'Black'. It marked break through project in his career life, after success of 'Black', he worked for the many superhit films in Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam languages. It also includes the names like Gandhi, My Father, Musafir, Saawariya, Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja and Enthiran. 

Resul Pookutty is the first Malayali who won the Oscar award for Best sound mixing along with  Richard Pryke and Ian Tapp for the film 'Slumdog Millionaire'. Apart from this he had received many awards and critical appreciation for his contribution to the Indian Cinema. Pookutty had received National Film Award for Best Audiography for the critically acclaimed 2009 Malayalam film 'Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja'.
