Jyotirmayee Nayak is an Indian playback singer and trained music therapist who rose to national fame after winning Indian Idol Season 16. Born on February 14, 2001, in Baunsanal village of Odisha’s Balasore district, she created history as the first contestant from the state to win the prestigious title. Coming from a supportive family, she pursued music to fulfill her father’s dream while excelling academically, earning a B.Tech in Computer Science from KIIT University in 2023. She later specialized in music therapy in Chennai, gaining recognition for using her voice as a powerful tool for emotional and clinical healing among vulnerable patients.
Before coming on national TV, Jyotirmayee Nayak was working as a music therapist in Bhubaneswar. She used music to help people feel better, especially cancer patients, their families, and pregnant women. Her sessions helped reduce stress, pain, and sadness without medicines. The love and encouragement she received from her patients gave her the confidence to audition for Indian Idol.
Before entering reality television, Jyotirmayee Nayak was already known in her region for singing in Odia films, devotional shows, and music albums. However, Indian Idol Season 16 made her famous across the country. During auditions, she impressed judges Shreya Ghoshal, Vishal Dadlani, and Badshah with her soulful performance of “Moh Moh Ke Dhaage.” Despite facing a serious throat problem before the show, she worked hard and kept improving every week.
