'Laapataa Ladies' Is India's Official Entry For Oscars 2025: India has officially selected Laapataa Ladies as its entry for the 2025 Academy Awards. Directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan Productions, the film is set in rural India and tells the gripping tale of two young women who go missing after a mass wedding, sparking a series of chaotic and humorous events. Among the contenders from the Telugu industry are "Kalki", a mythological drama; "Hanuman", which explores themes of faith and divinity; and "Mangalavaram", a suspense-filled rural thriller that captivates with its unique storytelling.
The Tamil entries feature a stellar lineup, led by "Thangalaan", a historical epic set against a grand backdrop. From Malayalam cinema, "Ullozhukku" delves into the depths of human emotions, while "Aadujeevitham" is an inspiring story of survival against all odds. Other entries include the visually stunning "All We Imagine as Light", and "Aattam", which explores intricate human relationships.
Bollywood brings forward a varied mix with "Kill", an intense thriller, and "Sam Bahadur", a biopic about India's first Field Marshal, Sam Manekshaw. Other entries include "Article 370", a political drama; "Goodluck", a tale of hope; "Joram", a suspenseful journey; and "Animal", a gripping crime drama. The lineup also features "Shrikanth", "Veer Savarkar", "Chota Bheem and the Curse of Daamyan", "Laa Patta Ladies", and "Chandu Champion", showcasing Bollywood’s diverse genres.
The Marathi film industry has also delivered compelling contenders. "Swaragandharva Sudhir Phadke" pays tribute to the legendary music composer, while "Ghath" is a chilling thriller. Rounding out the list is "Gharat Ganapati", a heartwarming family drama centered around faith and tradition.
