The Mardaani franchise began with Mardaani (2014), released on August 22 and directed by Pradeep Sarkar, which exposed the harsh realities of human trafficking as Inspector Shivani Shivaji Roy takes on a ruthless mafia kingpin. This was followed by Mardaani 2 (2019), released on December 13 and directed by Gopi Puthran, where a promoted Shivani is transferred to Kota and faces a psychotic young serial rapist. The upcoming Mardaani 3, set to release on January 30, 2026, and directed by Abhiraj Minawala.
Apart from Rani Mukerji and Mallika Prasad, Mardaani 3 also stars Janki Bodiwala, known for her roles in Vash and Shaitaan. The Yash Raj Films production is directed by Abhiraj Minawala, produced by Aditya Chopra, and co-produced by Akshaye Widhani. The film is written by Aayush Gupta, Deepak Kingrani, and Baljeet Singh Marwah, with the screenplay and dialogues penned by Aayush Gupta.
