Most-Anticipated Malayalam Movies of 2024's Second Half

Unni Mukundan's 'Marco' stands as one of the most anticipated Malayalam movies of the year. Directed by Haneef Adeni, this action-thriller drama is a spin-off from the 2018 film 'Mikhael'. Produced by Shareef Muhammed Abdul Gadhaf under Cubes Entertainments, the star-studded cast includes Kabir Duhan Singh, Anson Paul, Siddique, Jagadish, Abhimanyu Thilakan, Durva Thaker, Ajith Koshy, Ishan Shoukath, Mathew Varghese, and Yukti Thareja. The recently released first-look poster captured attention with Unni Mukundan in black attire, his face streaked with blood, gripping the handle of a blood-soaked knife between his teeth. Chandru Selvaraj handles the cinematography, Shameer Muhammed manages editing, Ravi Basrur, renowned for his work in 'KGF', directs the music, and Kalai Kingson oversees action choreography for the film.

Tovino Thomas’ upcoming film 'Ajayante Randam Moshanam (ARM)' is scheduled for release on September 12th, 2024. Directed by Jithin Laal, this action-packed entertainer is produced by DR Zachariah Thomas and Listin Stephen. Alongside Tovino Thomas, the cast includes Aishwarya Rajesh, Krithi Shetty, Pramod Shetty, Surabhi Lakshmi, Basil Joseph, and Harish Uthaman in prominent roles. 'Ajayante Randam Moshanam' is a high-budget, multi-lingual production set to release in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi.

'L2E – Empuraan', directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and starring Mohanlal, has entered the production phase. Following the success of 'Lucifer' in 2019, this sequel promises to be a game-changer for the Malayalam film industry, with plans for a multi-language release.

Mohanlal's directorial debut 'Barroz' is all set to release in theaters on September 12, during this year's Onam festival. Originally planned for release on March 28, the film is produced by Antony Perumbavoor under Aashirvad Cinemas and stars Mohanlal in the lead role. Touted as a 3D fantasy adventure, 'Barroz' features dialogues by Kalavoor Ravikumar and boasts a talented technical crew including cinematographer Santosh Sivan, production designer Santhosh Raman, and editor B Ajithkumar.

'Kathanar – The Wild Sorcerer' directed by Rojin Thomas and starring Jayasurya, is inspired by the supernatural tales of Kerala priest Kadamattathu Kathanar. Anushka Shetty makes her Malayalam debut alongside Jayasurya, while Prabhudeva returns to Malayalam cinema after 13 years. Produced by Sree Gokulam Movies, the film is a pan-India project employing virtual production technology. Neil D Cunha handles the cinematography, Jungjin Park choreographs the action, and Rahul Subrahmanian Unni is the music director. The film is expected to be released theatrically in December.

Written and directed by Deeno Dennis, son of veteran writer Kaloor Dennis, 'Bazooka' is a thriller featuring Mammotty, Shine Tom Chacko, and Gayathri Iyer in pivotal roles. Tamil director-actor Gautam Vasudev Menon also stars in the film. Produced jointly by Saregama and Theatre of Dreams, 'Bazooka' is slated for a theatrical release in November.

Asif Ali will showcase a distinctive appearance in his upcoming film 'Level Cross', directed by debutant Arfaz Ayub, who also penned the script. Dialogue for the movie is crafted by director Adam Ayub, Arfaz's father. Produced by Jeethu Joseph, the film was originally scheduled to hit theaters on June 14 and later postponed to June 26.
