Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 has achieved a historic milestone, overtaking Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava to become the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025. The much-anticipated prequel to the 2022 blockbuster has captivated audiences with its powerful storytelling, stunning visuals, and deep cultural roots. Its massive box office success cements Rishab Shetty’s status as one of India’s most visionary filmmakers, marking another proud moment for Kannada cinema on the national stage.
Kantara Chapter 1 is written, directed, and acted by Rishab Shetty. Produced by Hombale Films, the movie also stars Sapthami Gowda, Kishore, and Achyuth Kumar in key roles. The story takes viewers back in time to show the beginning of the legend seen in the first film. It explores ancient traditions, faith, and the strong connection between people and nature. With its stunning visuals and emotional storytelling, the film builds on the world that made Kantara so special.
On its 25th day, Kantara: Chapter 1 had a lifetime collection of around ₹808 crore. The movie has performed exceptionally well across the Hindi belt, South India, and overseas markets. It became the first film to cross ₹200 crore in Karnataka, currently standing at around ₹235 crore, with equally strong collections in the Hindi-speaking regions, Telugu states, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.
Chhaava is a Bollywood Historical action film directed by Laxman Utekar, featuring Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna in lead roles. Music for the film is composed by A.R. Rahman. Produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films. Chhaava delves into the life of Sambhaji Maharaj, the second ruler of the Maratha Empire. Chhaava released on 14th February 2025.
