Vetrimaaran made his directing breakthrough with the action thriller "Polladhavan," which had a budget of 5 crores and was released on November 8, 2007. The film was a resounding hit and was well received by the audience for its casual lifestyle theme and Dhanush's efficiency, and it made 17 crores at the box office. On the other hand, Lokesh produced "Maanagaram," his maiden film, with unfamiliar artists on a modest budget of 4 crores, and it was released on March 10th, 2017. The fast-paced script of the film helped it break into the $100 million club at the box office. In the years 2008 and 2018, the directors shared the Vijay Award for best debut director.
