And when you think of Yash Chopra's exotic locations, one place that strikes your mind is Switzerland - One of the richest countries in the world. By capturing both beauty of Switzerland as well as beautiful and romantic couple, Yash Chopra created his own style of filmmaking and no doubt that's the reason he is called King Of Romance. In short, we can say Switzerland is this Romantic dreamer's favourite place.

Yash Chopra was honoured by the Swiss Government for rediscovering. On behalf of Swiss Government, he was presented a Special Award by Ursula Andress. In Switzerland, Yash Chopra shot at a lake in the Alpenrausch so often that it was christened Chopra Lake. To offer a customised entertainment experience to Indian-Movie Fans visiting Switzerland, Yash Raj Films (YRF) & SOTC signed Licensing Agreement with Swiss-based Brandinvest AG.

The romantic dreamer was felicitated with Swiss Ambassador Award by the Embassy of Switzerland. He was honoured with the title 'Ambassador of Interlaken'. A train named after Yash Chopra, was launched by him in Jungfrau Railways in Switzerland. Chopra's love towards Switzerland began during his honeymoon and since then it continued.

Yash Chopra introduced Switzerland to Bollywood in 80s. His first film shot in the country was Faasle (1985), which was produced and directed by Yash Chopra himself. The film bombed at the Box office because of its weak storyline and editing. It was debut film of Rohan Kapoor (son of singer Mahinder Kapoor) and actress Farha (niece of Shabana Azmi). The other film which was shot in this country was Vijay (1988), which starred Rajesh Khanna, Hema Malini, Rishi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Anupam Kher in the lead roles.

Chandni starred Rishi Kapoor, Sridevi and Vinod Khanna in the lead role. This film made Switzerland a popular destination for Indians to visit as most of the scenes and songs were shot in the country. The film also made Yash Chopra's style evident.
Rishi and Sridevi running through Swiss mountains forming a beautiful backdrop for the romantic couple. The dream sequence including song, was shot in Switzerland. Also, the place where Khanna, who is on business trip, meets Kapoor was shot in Switzerland.

Darr, a romantic psychological thriller, directed by Yash Chopra, starred Shahrukh as an obsessed lover, Sunny Deol and Juhi Chawla in the lead role. In the movie, Sunny Deol and Juhi Chawla go for a honeymoon trip to Switzerland. Few scenes where Sunny, Juhi and Shahrukh meet during the trip were also shot in Swiss. Song 'Tu mere saamne' with Shahrukh (in colourful shirt) and Juhi (in Yash Chopra's trademark costumes: from pullover and leggings to chiffon sari and a mini skirt) was shot on Jungfrau Railways' trains.

DDLJ In Switzerland

DDLJ, which starred Sharukh Khan and Kajol was produced by Yash Chopra. The movie was shot in many places of Switzerland. Kajol's church scene was shot in Switzerland (church interior and exterior were shot in two different places, of which one was Swiss). The railway station where Kajol misses her train was Zweisimmen Railway Station. Song 'Tujhe dekha' was shot in Saanen bridge and Lake Lungerer Lee. Also in the song 'Zara sa jhoom', SRK picks drunk Kajol to the hotel in a horse-carriage along the Gstaad Promenade. The song was also shot at Jungfrau, Switzerland.

Mohabbatein and DTPH In Switzerland

Dil To Pagal Hai (DTPH), which was directed and produced by Yash Chopra, starring Shahrukh Khan, Maduri Dixit and Karisma Kapoor was also shot in Switzerland.
Mohobbatein, produced by Yash ji, starred Shahrukh, Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Song 'Humko Humise' was shot in Lake Thun and Lake Amsoldingen in the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland.

MDK And MYKSH In Switzerland

Mujhse Dosti Karoge (MDK), produced by Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra, is about the love triangle of three friends played by Hrithik Roshan, Rani Mukherjee and Kareena Kapoor. Few song sequences (Rani and Hrithik) were shot in Switzerland.
Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai (MYKSH), produced by Yash Chopra and Aditya Chopra, starred Uday Chopra, Jimmy Shergill, Bipasha Basu and Tulip Joshi. Few song sequences (Uday, Jummy and Tulip) were shot in Switzerland.

Veer-Zaara And LCMD In Switzerland

Veer-Zaara directed by Yash Chopra, starred Shahrukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherjee. The song, 'Yeh hum agaye' was shot in Switzerland.
Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (LCMD), the film made under Yash Raj Films, starred Rani Mukerjhee, Abhishek Bachchan, Konkona Sen Sharma and Kunal Kapoor. In the song, Ik Teekhi, Konkona and Kunal actually fly to Switzerland (business trip). 'Zara Gungunalein', (Rani and Abhishek), was shot at the ancient city of Lucerne in Switzerland.

Bachna Ae Haseeno In Switzerland

Bachna Ae Haseeno romantic comedy made under Yash Raj Films, starred Ranbir Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Deepika Padukone and Minissha Lamba. Minissha's storyline was inspired by DDLJ which was filmed in the similar locales of Switzerland as DDLJ. Minissha misses her train after getting off at a station in Switzerland. Ranbir and Minissha meet at Rougemont, Vaud, Switzerland and start their scooter trip to Zurich. Song 'Aahista Aahista' was shot at Glacier 3000 (Dog Sledging) in Gstaad, Switzerland.

Yash Chopra's Jab Tak Hai Jaan

Yash Chopra's last directorial movie Jab Tak Hai Jaan, which is all set to hit the screen this Diwali, stars Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma. Yashji wanted to shoot Katrina, with his trademark style (Katrina with chiffon sari) romancing Shahrukh in the lush meadows of the Swiss Alps. But due to Chopra's demise the trip to Switzerland was cancelled. It is reported that Yash ji's track would be played during the film's end credits.
