source
close
to
Angad
told
The
Free
Press
Journal
that
two
weeks
ago,
Bishan
Singh
Bedi
underwent
surgery
and
was
hospitalized
in
Delhi
since
then.
Born
in
Amritsar,
Punjab,
on
September
25,
1946,
Bishan
Singh
Bedi
began
his
cricket
career
in
1966
and
went
on
to
represent
India
till
1979.
Considered
a
notable
figure
in
India's
first
ODI
win,
Bedi
was
the
captain
of
the
cricket
team
and
helped
India
win
the
1971
series
against
England.
He
is
regarded
as
one
of
the
greatest
spinners
in
the
history
of
India's
cricket.
In
his
debut
match,
he
took
21
wickets
and
continued
his
winning
streak
with
25
wickets
against
England,
18
wickets
against
the
West
Indies,
22
more
against
England,
and
an
outstanding
25
and
31
wickets
against
England
and
Australia,
respectively.
Besides
his
international
cricket
career,
Bedi
also
had
a
smashing
domestic
career,
as
he
played
for
Delhi
in
the
Ranji
Trophy
and
won
titles
in
1978,
1979,
and
1980,
1981.

his
acting
debut
with
the
Abhishek

Angad
starrer
sports
drama
movie
Ghoomer.
He
had
a
cameo
in
the

Talking
about
his
father
working
in
films,
Angad
had
earlier
said,

Bedi,
after
retiring
from
professional
cricket,
was
working

a

Arjuna
Award
and

Padma
Shri
in
1982.
