Mahadev
App
Betting
Scam:
After
Ranbir
Kapoor,
the
Enforcement
Directorate
has
now
issued
summons
to
actors
Kapil
Sharma,
Huma
Qureshi,
and
Hina
Khan
in
connection
with
the
Mahadev
betting
app
case.
The
Mahadev
betting
app
had
come
under
scrutiny
earlier
this
year,
in
February,
following
a
lavish
wedding
worth
₹200
crore
in
the
UAE,
which
saw
many
celebrity
performances.
The
probe
agency
has
summoned
Huma
Qureshi
and
Hina
Khan
for
allegedly
promoting
the
Mahadev
betting
app,
and
Kapil
Sharma
for
attending
the
success
party
of
the
app
in
Dubai
last
September.
Officials
say
that
the
Mahadev
Online
Book
Betting
app
is
an
umbrella
syndicate
that
accelerates
illegal
betting
websites
to
enrol
new
users
and
also
create
user
IDs.
It
also
launders
money
through
a
complex
web
of
benami
bank
accounts.
It
is
also
reported
that
the
firm's
operations
are
run
from
Dubai
by
its
owners,
Sourabh
Chandrakar
and
Ravi
Uppalis,
and
that
senior
government
functionaries
were
bribed
by
calling
it
'protection
money'.
The
online
betting
app
is
being
investigated
by
the
ED
and
police
departments
of
several
states.
Around
39
locations
were
raided,
and
illegal
assets
worth
₹417
crore
in
connection
with
the
case
have
been
seized.
Raipur's
special
PMLA
court
has
issued
a
non-bailable
warrant
against
the
suspects.
Several
top
Bollywood
actors
and
singers
have
come
under
ED's
radar
in
connection
with
the
probe
into
the
Mahadev
online
betting
case.
Recently,
actor
Ranbir
Kapoor
was
summoned
for
allegedly
carrying
out
promotional
activities
for
the
app.
The
actor
has
asked
for
two
weeks
to
appear
before
the
agency
in
person.
Chandrakar's
wedding,
which
happened
in
Ras
Al-Khaimah,
was
paid
entirely
in
cash,leading
to
ED's
doubt.
The
ED
suspects
that
he
arranged
for
private
jets
to
ferry
family
members
from
Nagpur
to
the
UAE
and
also
paid
celebrities
to
perform
at
the
wedding
venue.
Earlier,
the
Enforcement
Directorate
stated
that
it
had
identified
the
important
people
involved
in
the
money
laundering
operations.
Last
month,
four
people
were
arrested
in
Chhattisgarh,
including
the
chief
liaisoner
of
the
betting
syndicate.
