Ranjith Biography

Ranjith is an Indian playback singer who originally hails from Kerala. He was brought up in Tamil Nadu and he is very famous for his playback singing in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam. He became popular when he won the Sun TV Saptha Swarangal singing contest in 2001.

Early Life

Ranjith was born in Chennai, India, to a Malayalee family, they hail from Ottapalam in Kerala, and he grew up listening to various kinds of music. He used to stay in a locality in Chennai, where there were majority of Keralites and he had a chance to participate in the local programs there. Later, he was suggested by somebody to his parents that he would come up if he is being trained in classical music. He learned Indian Classical Music and Carnatic music in his childhood. As of now, he sings songs in Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu.

Ranjith, who hails from Kalluvazhi near Ottappalam, was trained in classical music by Vidwan Cuddalore Subramanian, K. S. Kanakasingam, Trichur P. Ramankutty and P. S. Narayana Swamy.

Foray Into Playback Singing

Ranjith was first recognised by Mani Sharma. Ranjith made a debut in playback singing with the song "Adugu Adugu" from the movie Bobby along with one of the greatest singers Hariharan, which was released in the year 2002. This song was received very well in Andhra Pradesh and the audio became an instant hit. Later, Ranjith made his debut in Tamil playback singing by singing the song, "Hey Penne" from the movie Aasai Aasaiyai, which was released in 2003. The music and the song was a big hit; but the song which really gave Ranjith a good break is the song "Suppose" from the movie Sukran, which was released in 2005. In 2009, he also performed in Singapore for the mega-hit variety programme, Jillunu Oru Maalai, produced by Megastar Productions.
