Washington, (ANI): Australian sensation Nicole Kidman is set to play actor Ralph Fiennes' love interest in the film adaptation of the award-winning novel 'The Readers', authored by German writer Bernhard Schlink.

David Hare is writing the script, while Stephen Daldry is on board to direct the film for Weinstein Co.

Mirage Productions, comprising of partners Anthony Minghella and Sydney Pollack, is producing the movie with Scott Rudin. The film has been set in contemporary Germany, where a man recounts the story of his erotic awakening in a covert love affair with an older woman in the wake of WWII.

According to Variety magazine, the shooting for the movie begins in Berlin late September. Published in the US by Pantheon, 'The Readers' was an international bestseller. Minghella and Pollack have acquired rights to adapt it into a movie.

The film will mark the reunion of Kidman, Daldry, Hare and Rudin who last collaborated in The Hours, for which Kidman was honoured with an Oscar. Kidman worked with Minghella in Cold Mountain, and with Pollack in The Interpreter. Fiennes starred for Minghella in The English Patient.
