9 Out Of 85 Foreign Language Films To Battle For The Oscar

Out of 85 nominations from different countries in the world in the Foreign Language Films Category, only 9 made it to the next stage.

Nine out of Eighty-five films make the grand entry to the next round of the 89th Academy Awards in the Foreign Language Film category.

The movies are listed below according to the alphabetical order by country:-

Oscar 2017

1. Country: Australia, Film: Tanna, Directed by: Bentley Dean & Martin Butler.
2. Country: Canada, Film: It's Only the End of the World, Directed by: Xavier Dolan.
3. Country: Denmark, Film: Land of Mine, Directed by: Martin Zandvliet.
4. Country: Germany, Film: Toni Erdmann, Directed by: Maren Ade.
5. Country: Iran, Film: The Salesman, Directed by: Asghar Farhadi.
6. Country: Norway, Film: The King's Choice, Directed by: Erik Poppe.
7. Country: Russia, Film: Paradise, Directed by: Andrei Konchalovsky.
8. Country: Sweden, Film: A Man Called Ove, Directed by: Hannes Holm.
9. Country: Switzerland, Film: My Life as a Zucchini, Directed by: Claude Barras.

The nominations for Foreign Language Film 2016 will be essayed in two distinct phases.

The phase I will constitute a committee of Los Angeles-based Academy Award members, who will scrutinize and shortlist movies from the original submissions through mid-October till December 12.

Then in phase II, the shortlisted films will be winnowed down further by the jury members of specially invited committees in Los Angeles, New York and London.

They will then cast their ballots on the basis of 3 films watched by them each day from Friday, January 13, to Sunday, January 15.

The category for the Foreign Language Film was introduced in the year 1956 during the 29th Academy Awards.

All the nominations for the 89th Academy Awards will be declared on Tuesday, 24th January, 2017.

The 89th Academy Awards will be marshaled on Sunday, 26th February 2017, at the Grand Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

The grand event will be telecasted live in more than 225 countries of the world at the scheduled time 7 p.m. EST/ 5.30 a.m IST.
