Sexual
Assault:
The
British
entertainment
industry
rocked
this
week
as
a
series
of
sexual
assault
allegations
surfaced
against
renowned
comedian
Russell
Brand.
While
the
comedian
has
denied
the
allegations,
his
upcoming
gigs
from
Britain
tour
were
put
on
hold
by
the
promoters.
The
48-year-old
comedian
faces
allegations
of
sexual
assault
made
by
four
women,
as
revealed
in
a
Channel
4
television
documentary
and
articles
published
by
The
Times
and
Sunday
Times
newspapers.
The
accusers
have
chosen
to
remain
anonymous,
but
their
stories
have
shaken
the
entertainment
industry.
One
of
the
alleged
victims
claims
she
was
sexually
assaulted
by
Brand
during
a
relationship
that
began
when
she
was
just
16
years
old.
One
another
woman
alleged
that
Brand
raped
her
in
Los
Angeles
in
2012.
As
per
a
report
in
AP,
acknowledged
that
they
had
received
a
report
of
a
sexual
assault
alleged
to
have
occurred
in
Soho,
central
London,
in
2003.
This
incident
reportedly
took
place
three
years
before
the
earliest
of
the
alleged
assaults
reported
in
the
media.
The
police
force
were
further
quoted,
"officers
are
in
contact
with
the
woman
and
will
be
providing
her
with
support." While
the
police
did
not
identify
the
alleged
perpetrator
as
the
comedian,
but
referred
to
the
TV
allegations
and
newspaper
in
its
statement.
Police
also
urged
"anyone
who
believes
they
may
have
been
a
victim
of
a
sexual
offence,
no
matter
how
long
ago
it
was,
to
contact
us."
RUSSELL
BRAND
DENIES
SEXUAL
HARRASSMENT
ALLEGATIONS
Brand,
in
response
to
the
media
claims,
released
a
video
statement
and
said
that
the
relationships
he
has
were
"always
consensual."
Meanwhile,
the
spokesperson
of
Prime
Minister
Rishi
Sunak
said:
"These
are
very
serious
and
concerning
allegations.
The
Met
Police
has
asked
anyone
who
believes
they
have
been
a
victim
of
a
sexual
assault
to
come
forward
to
speak
to
officers." The
statement
further
read,
"As
the
Foreign
Secretary
said
over
the
weekend,
people
should
feel
able
to
raise
concerns
where
they
have
them
and
know
they
will
be
treated
seriously
and
treated
with
sensitivity.
The
Prime
Minister
has
been
clear
there
should
never
be
any
space
for
harassment,
regardless
of
where
it
is
found."
